VTG Mid Century Brutalist Patinated Copper Brooch Raw Azurite Sea Sponge

Rare and incredibly unique vintage mid-century studio art jewelry piece. This heavy statement brooch is an excellent example of the 1960s/1970s Brutalist and Modernist craft movement. It was originally purchased at high-end regional fine art shows by a dedicated collector of avant-garde, expensive, and unusual wearable art. Design Features: • Front features a large, convex patinated copper shield accented with a meticulous, hand-drilled geometric ventilation motif. • Accented at the top with an organic, raw mineral cluster inset including a textured fragment of natural sea sponge and deep blue unpolished mineral specimens (resembling raw azurite, lapis, or sodalite). • The back is expertly bench-made with a custom dual-tube wire stabilization and tension clasp, engineered perfectly to balance the weight of a heavy statement piece on thick fabrics like a wool coat, blazer, or scarf. • Completely one-of-a-kind and unsigned/unmarked, which is highly characteristic of authentic mid-century artisan studio pieces. Condition: Excellent vintage condition with a beautiful, rich heat patina. No loose settings. Original handmade pin mechanism works perfectly.
