I believe the item was listed as "new in box" and while in the origunal box, it appeared to have been used. There were spots/splatters on the base where the curlers stand (i was able to clean these), but some also permanently etched into the clear plastic lid. However, the item works, the price was ok, and has all clips so overall was a good purchase and ecperience (thus the 5-star rating). Thank you!
