Vintage 1970s HTF Pyrex Earth Tones 400 CRS Series Burnt Orange/Rust 401 - 1 1/2 Pint Mixing/Nesting Bowl.
The Earth Tone sets are referred to as a “Pyrex Mystery”.
In 1970, Corning launched an assortment of new 3-piece Bake Ware Sets in a variety of patterns. One of the new sets was called "Earth Tones" in dealer announcements. This set included a loaf pan (913) in beige , square pan (922) in burnt orange, and oblong pan (933) in rust. Although called Earth Tones in the dealer announcement, in the 1970 Dealer Catalog, there was no reference to the name, "Earth Tones."
Adding to the mystery is the 4 Pc. Mixing Bowl Set (401, 402, 403, 404) in similar colors. Based on the backstamp on these it is estimated that they were produced later in the 1970s. These mixing bowls are hard to find, indicating they were likely produced as a test item, special promotion, or limited edition set. The Mixing Bowls did not appear in dealer catalogs. The significance of "CRS" is unclear.
This bowl measures approx. 3 ¼” H x 5 ¾” Diameter.
The exterior has lost some of its gloss and is somewhat mottled - most likely from being put in a dishwasher. It shows some paint loss all around. There is also a small horse shoe like indent on the exterior which looks like a manufacturing issue. Please review pictures.
The interior has a few light utensil marks on the bottom and around the top edge.
Overall, this piece is in good condition. In spite of its flaws, it is still a pretty collectible bowl!
