It also stops the dress from riding up. Surprisingly soft and silky mesh! It's super stretchy. You can widen the body if you loosen the lace, so I didn't measure the pit to pit, however I did measure where I think the seam could rip, which is at the waist where the bodice is attached to the skirt. The measurement for the waist is 14”, or 28” but the dress is designed to have negative ease so I think if your waist is 4” bigger I think it will still look good. Follow the large sizing for House of CB as this dress is known as being true to size.
