Vintage/Antique Stombock Saddlery Men's Tall Custom Leather Field Boots Made in England - Men's Size 6 Women’s 7.5 The original Stombock Saddlery opened in Georgetown in 1895. At the turn of the century, a saddle shop in the middle of D.C. wasn’t an odd thing, seeing as so many people still got around by horse and buggy. Later, when W.H. Stombock & Son did business on M Street in Georgetown, Dean Acheson, John Archbold, Hugh Auchincloss, Paul Mellon, and Jackie Kennedy all had charge accounts. Gen. George S. Patton himself, then a mere major, advanced on the store wearing his sidearms, jumped on the counter and ordered a new gunbelt by commanding, "Stombock, wrap some leather around these things!" Rising Georgetown rents forced the store to move to the Potomac in 1970. And in 1990 it all came to an end, when the third and final incarnation of Stombock's went out of business in Gaithersburg, Maryland. (H/T to reporter Alison Howard for this history.)
