They have a thing next to the big toe and straps that go the way around the ankle and then lace up the back. These are new, in the box and never worn. Size 39 = 8.5/9. They run true to size but if you are a half size, it is recommended to go up to the next size. They are made to get softer as the vegetable tanned leather molds to your foot.
