Vintage ILGWU Coral Chiffon And Satin Angel Wing Gown, Size M

Lovely is too ubiquitous, but it is truly the only word! We ALWAYS look for the International Ladies Garment Workers Union--not only are they of massive historic importance to feminists, but also the makers of the most reliable vintage pieces on the market. This is no exception! The construction is cunning--a satiny bodice and full skirt is elevated by the enormous open collar, elastic cording that continues through in the ties at the shoulder and waist. The first photograph is closest to the color--the chiffon "wings" gather at the collar, and split down the shoulder, and cascade and billow to the waist, where they gather once again. The sheer of the chiffon is a loose curtain, and as you can see on the mannequin, a color totally on trend--orange/pink coral. The bodice and skirt (I wish the label identified it as satin, but because it is dry clean only, I'm going to bet on it) gather at the waist to reveal a maxi skirt--this has movement! Zips down the back, and the bottom of the dress has an unfinished hem--but not raggedy, suggesting it was waiting to be tailored. I'm listing it as a M--there is so, so much stretch in the bodice and skirt, from pit to pit, the underlay is 17.5 and elastic, the waist is 16, but I think it's meant to be high waisted, almost Grecian. The skirt is so voluminous and the tie belt adjustable--this seems designed for many body types. The length is 47, and as mentioned, ready to be taken up for your height. Coral mermaid goddess!
