Beautiful Victorian relief jug by T. & J. Mayer of Dale Hall Pottery, Longport, Staffordshire, England, dating to approximately 1870–1880 based on the registry diamond and maker’s mark.
This striking antique features white parian-style relief figures set against a textured cobalt blue ground, depicting romantic pastoral scenes surrounded by botanical foliage. The sculptural branch-form handle and detailed molded decoration are characteristic of Victorian Staffordshire art pottery.
The base is clearly stamped:
T. & J. Mayer – Dale Hall Pottery – Longport – Patent
Pattern No. 97
Also present is a Victorian registry diamond mark, used in Britain between 1842–1883, helping confirm its late 19th century production.
Small holes visible near the rim are original kiln vent holes used during firing, allowing air to escape from the thick molded relief decoration. These are intentional manufacturing features, not damage.
