ericaliny You look like sisters! I was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune brain disease ten years ago. The journey has been not been with out its difficulties (on me, on family, on the finances). It’s amazing the strength you find in yourself and others when you are at your weakest. I’m glad to know your daughter has your strength when she needs it. I hope the new medication is the right one and will help her. I’ll look through your closet and share, share, share.

ericaliny @joooneyb I took me 20 years before finding the right doctor and diagnosis. Never settle. Trust your gut. If you don’t like the doctor, find a new one. My disease isn’t curable but it’s treatable. Learn what the symptoms of the disease are, what can set it off & what to avoid if possible. Stress can be a huge factor in triggering illness. Some things are completely out of our control. Learn what’s in your power to keep healthy. And keep the ones you love close.

joooneyb @ericaliny OH wow, 20 years- that is such a struggle. My mom had a similar path- it took forever for them to figure it out ( back in the late 80s). Jaye has been sick for about 13 years- ups and downs- we’ve been to Mayo twice and consulted with the NIH. You have to stick with it for sure. I am getting really tempted to move to another city, but hopefully this new treatment will be a game changer! You are SOOOO right about stress!

ericaliny @joooneyb please keep me updated on Jayes progress. I don’t know what kind of autoimmune disease she has but with the proper treatment and care she should be able to live a relatively normal life. We all have different “normals”. What’s normal for me is not normal for others so it’s important to know what’s not “normal” for you. I have bloodwork done 2x a year. Sometimes it’s fine sometimes it catches something before it gets out of hand. It’s just something you have to keep ahead of.

We used to be involved with an online support group, but a while back they told her the biologic she was on resolved the TRAPS but she had other auto immune/nervous system issues, so i have not revisited that. It was extremely helpful though! Now we just know its autoimmune/nervous and she is disabled and in pain all the time. She had given up, but we are hoping this treatment works! Thanks for the info- will visit!
