A little more esoteric, however, is the fact that those Brooklyn Dodgers were alternatively known as the Brooklyn Robins from 1914 to 1931. The moniker was inspired by the team’s then manager, Wilbert Robinson, a leader of men who’d endeared himself to the club with his earnestness and love for the game.
