This piece features a hand carved shell cameo depicting a Bacchante, a female follower of the Roman God Bacchus (In Greek mythology they are knows as Maenads and Bacchus is known as Dionysus). Bacchus is the God of the grape harvest, wine and wine making, and Bacchantes are usually depicted adorned with grapes and grape leaves.This cameo shows a woman with grapes in her hair and on her dress, and has a beautiful creamy colour and natural orange flecks, and the background is a glossy orange that fades into white. The frame is 14k yellow gold with an engraved scrolling design and is accented with 4 bezel set natural grey pearls. The piece can be worn as a brooch or pendant.
