This stunning pair of antique Japanese teacups and saucers featuring silver plated dragons dates to the Meiji era (circa 1880s) exemplifies the refined craftsmanship of Kutani porcelain.
Made from delicate eggshell porcelain, each piece is finished in a rich red-orange glaze with intricately hand-painted silver plated dragons - a traditional symbol of strength and protection in East Asian culture.
The base of each piece bears the red 永楽 (Eiraku) mark, a signature often used in high-quality Kutani ware as homage to the famed Eiraku kiln of Kyoto.
The porcelain is eggshell thin and light, with a lustrous sheen, with some wear over the century. As they were hand made, there are slight imperfections as per pics.
These pieces are both highly collectible and display-worthy, showcasing the artistic excellence and cultural symbolism of 19th-century Japanese ceramics.
