This stunning purple velvet opera coat was most likely made in the late 1930, or 1940s.
It is a true silk velvet, and was tested using the burn method.
It has a large, (likely white rabbit) fur collar, which shows some wear, and bits of fur that have rubbed off.
The sleeves are a "leg-of-mutton" or puffed style at the shoulder that tapers towards a fitted cuff at the wrist.
The coat fastens down the front with velvet-covered buttons at the neckline and waist.
This type of coat would have been worn as outerwear over a formal evening gown. There is some staining on the bottom inside lining, but the outside is in excellent condition, considering it would have dragged on the ground.
I aquired it from a well known Canadian gothic artist, who had many beautiful outfits, including this one.
Measurements can be taken upon request for serious buyers.
