I had this jug loosely valuated online by someone considered an expert in the field (thank you, Will Farmer!) and although it's not stamped Clarice Cliff or formally assigned to her, it's highly likely it was her work. It was an existing shape for Wilkingsons already in their patterns, and was taken up by Clarice and used throughout her career and was decorated in many different patterns. The design dates from circa 1928 while Cliff was working at Newport Pottery (owned by Wilkinsons) and still contributing in the design studio at Wilkinsons so it's highly likely she had her hand in this.
This piece is in very good condition all around with the following things to note:
- one small chip on the base, mostly on the bottom but can be seen slightly from the side
- a couple of "surface chips" in the paint which show up as white, most notably on the handle and a small bit on the side of the jug
- a few tiny "bubbles" in the paint/glaze
- the color is a bit faded on the inside of the handle - either it was never vibrant to begin with, or it's been rubbed off a bit over the years
No cracks, no crazing, no significant marks or stains on the inside
All "issues" have been disclosed and photographed for your reference.
