In "the olden days" people could not buy pasteurised milk and so would have to boil (10 mins) it to make it safe to drink and keep. The milk would boil over, the bubbles coming through the holes in the lid, but it would liquify again in contact with air, and flow back into the pot. Fantastic to use, or why not have it as a classic piece of decor with kitchen utensils or a herb plant?
