1950s Wink (Faux Mink) Coat Toggle Buttons

Introducing “wink” - faux mink! lustrous high quality coat of fabric by Collins & Aikman, whose Candalon plushes were usually made of a blend of mohair, sheep's wool, cotton and silk. Candalon fabrics were trademarked in 1947. This jacket has a shawl collar, and fastens with 2 detailed black plastic buttons and strong elastic loops. 2 satin-lined pockets, and a grey rayon satin lining. Excellent VINTAGE condition. Gorgeous! Care: faux furs do well using home drycleaners such as Dryel. From a 1964 New York Times article: "Two other mills have become important sources of the fake furs. They are the Collins and Aikman Corporation, an oldtime producer of pile fabrics, and La France Apparel division of Gerli & Co., Inc. These mills weave what is known as a cutpile fabric. The first weaving operation produces something resembling a turkish towel, and a sharp blade cuts each row of loops to produce the pile. The knitted fabric is produced by intertwining sliver threads onto a basic knitted cloth and then shearing the ends to the desired length." Collins and Aikman began in the 1840s and is now defunct.
