Beautiful large hand crafted guar wood carving of a sitting cat with blue eyes made by the artisans of the Mandalay Box Company in Thailand. • 12" tall x 7" wide x 5" deep • Hand carved • 3D figural cat • Vintage mid-century • Solid wood The history of the Mandalay Box Company goes back to about 1900, when it was organized by the British East India Company to assist with the transport of the army from Calcutta to Mandalay. As of 2004, the company was still in operation producing wooden craft goods. I have included a screenshot of an ended auction listing for a set of three smaller carvings.
