1980s does 1940s ankle length dress

1980s does 1940s ankle length dress. Says size 6, but fits more like a 10 or maybe even a 12. Should be fitted in the waist more, as I tried to demonstrate in the first photo, but too big for me. I’m usually a size 8. Would be Mildred Pierce vibes on the right person.
