1988 CANADIAN OPEN GOLF Replica of DU MAURIER TROPHY Vintage PGA Golf GLEN ABBY

Here we have what I believe to be a fairly scarce item. From 1971-1993 Imperial Tobacco became the major sponsor of the Canadian Open Golf Tournament, and subsequently introduced and awarded the Du Maurier Trophy to the Winner. The trophy featured a standard base with a different soapstone carving done by an Inuit artist each year. The winner could keep the Carving Permanently and a new one would be added to the base for the next year. This is a replica in done in relief of the 1988 trophy which apparently featured a soapstone carving of a Snowy Owl. The lady that I bought this off many years ago in Oakville, Ontario (home of Glen Abbey Golf Club where the Open was held for many years), told me that her husband golfed at the Abby on a regular basis and may have volunteered to work at the Canadian Open. She wasn’t sure if her husband bought this at the Abbey or was gifted it for volunteering. Again this based on her memory as her husband had passed on and she wasn’t very sure how he got it. I can not confirm if this is true or not, as I have not been able to find another or any other information about this piece. What I am sure of is this is a great piece of Canadian golf memorabilia. It is made of some kind of solid Polymer plastic and painted to look like carved wood. It measures 15 ¼ inches by 8 ¼ inches, by 1 inch thick. This would look great in any office or den
