We are offering together this matching pair of antique English bone china cups and saucers from the John Aynsley Co.
The pattern is an elegant design with a netting of gold filigree outside of a very dark cobalt ribbon that is banded on both sides with gold striping. The edges and handles are also generously gilded, and there is a thin gold pinstripe inside the mouth of the cup. The inside of the cup and the center of the saucer are white. The size is dainty, with cup measuring 3 inches tall and 2 ¼ inches across the mouth, with a 5 inch saucer.
All the pieces are marked as shown, dating the sets to between1905 and 1910. They are in excellent condition - free from cracks, chips, scratches, stains, wear, or any other damage or defect.
Very elegant!
(Now for my history rant for the day: It is worth noting that these beautiful cups are NOT demitasse coffee cups. They are chocolate cups. Their slightly smaller size and narrow shape was intended for serving hot chocolate - a breakfast staple in affluent and fashionable Edwardian households.)
