2 Vintage Japanese Hagoita Paddles, Different sizes, Some Wear and Tear

These 2 cheerful hagoita paddles/racquets will brighten up any drab space with their beautiful embroidered fabric, delicate silver and gold paper accents, and hand painted faces. The reverse is also decorated with colourful paint. Hagoita paddles were decorated with remnant kimono fabrics and scraps of paper to decorate wooden boards before playing hanetsuki —a game similar to badminton. The pieces are given a bit of dimension with the help of styrofoam mounts between the paper and the board. The large one is 21 inches by 8 inches (approx 53 cm X 20 cm). The figure is mounted against a blue felt background and has a black felted handle. The smaller one is 14.5 by 4.5 inches (approx 37 cm X 12 cm). The figure is mounted agains a embroidered fabric background and has a black fabric covered handle. CONDITION: There are speckles of dust stains on the hands and face of the smaller paddle, and there is some creasing to the paper details on both. A few of the flowers in the hair ornaments of the larger one are missing their centre beads. These two pieces look lovely displayed together upright in a vase like a bouquet or mounted on a wall. For shipping these pieces will travel together in a recycled box.
