20 Kabocha squash seeds/ Japanese squash / chesnut squash / 日本南瓜 / 栗子南瓜种子. Zone 2-11 (I’m in zone 5) Kabocha has very sweat yellow flesh, so it’s ideal for pies and tempura. Flower, leaf and shoots are all edible too. The most important for me is they can be stored under room temperature for a year. This squash grows well on trellises or along a fence. But it can also sprawl on the ground (this is how I plant most of them). Be sure to check frequently for early developing fruits. Kabocha have a good shelf life, and will store for a year if kept clean and cool. The longer you wait the sweeter it gets, the texture also changes too. Note: I’m in zone 5, all the seeds are collected by myself. No chemical is used in our garden.
