The triquetra is a triangular figure composed of three interlaced arcs, or three overlapping vesicae piscis lens shapes. It is used as an ornamental design in architecture, and in medieval manuscript illumination (particularly in the Insular tradition). Its depiction as interlaced is common in Insular ornaments from about the 7th century. In this interpretation, the triquetra represents the topologically simplest possible knot. The triquetra is often used artistically as a design element when Celtic knotwork is used, especially in association with the modern Celtic nations. The triquetra, also known as a "Irish Trinity Knot", is often found as a design element in popular Irish jewelry such as claddaghs and other wedding or engagement rings.
Magnesite is a beautiful gemstone that looks similar to Turquoise or Howlite. When cut and polished into beads, it features a dark thread of veins or a web-like matrix across its surface. Because magnesite is easily dyed, in commercial contexts one might encounter this mineral in all colors of the rainbow alongside its natural white or grey hues. Polished specimens may be used for a variety of craft jewelry purposes. Some scientists are experimenting with the idea of sequestering carbon in magnesite to slow or reverse the effects of climate change.
