This is Gilbert and Sullivan's "The Mikado" by The D'Oyly Carte Opera Company with the New Promenade Orchestra. Produced in 1950, this opera recording was conducted by Isadore Godfrey. This album set contains 2 33 1/3 albums in a book/sleeve with accompanying literature. "The Mikado" is a satire of late 19th century British institutions, society and politics. By setting the opera in a fantasy Japan, an exotic locale far away from contemporary Britain, Gilbert was able to satirise British politics more freely.
The cover is in excellent condition with light spine bumps and soiling. Please see the pictures for details. The albums are in excellent vintage shape with some scratching on one. I have not played them through however.
