Jul 15Reply

kparedes @ckayej hi! OMG yes! When I learned that the preschoolers don't go to any field. Trips bec of lack of funding, I felt that this was the best way to give back esp to these kids who has hearing loss. I know they'll benefit more on this kind of activity😊
Jul 15Reply
ckayej
ckayej @kparedes it's amazing what they learn outside the school building! I teach in NYC and many of my students haven't left their own borough. We take them to places close by and they have never experienced them. It is truly eye opening. You have given me something to think about. I have wanted to so something more with the money I get from selling and I am going to think of some way to give back. You're ideas are a great inspiration. Have fun hosting tonight. You have great cohosts and I'm sure you'll all have great picks.

jenwoonani That's what I loved about Birney. That reason right there. I had many friends that were born with loss of hearing that I communicated with just fine because of all the sign language they taught us there. I still remember the Birney song and motto they instilled on us with the sign language to go along with if! Birney is so lucky to have a parent so dedicated as you. 😘👍❤️🌟😊

kriskris68 Where is this school located? I'm from Seattle and ready to return (after my kidney transplant). I have a visually impaired son, he's 16 now, but he struggled with reg. ed kids throughout his educational journey. I homeschool him now. I think it's great you have the opportunity to do all that you are doing. Keep up the amazing work.

kparedes
kparedes @kriskris68 hi Kristi! First of all wish u to have fast recovery on your surgery. My son goes to Birney Elementary in Tacoma. We live in Kent and it's about 50 mins away from our house. It's a great school and they have the best teachers for his spoken and listening class. My son is in preschool now, but hoping he catch up with speech so he can transfer back to his home school here in Kent.
Nov 10Reply
kriskris68
kriskris68 That's awesome! It's so important to be involved and have a good relationship with your children's educators. As I said, my son was born at 24 weeks and is visually impaired. When he was 3 and did his first year of head start, I was at the school as much as possible (but I worked full time and had an older daughter). He was so delayed in every area I thought possible but when they put him in a classroom with hearing impaired children, I freaked...I mean what the heck...I thought they were crazy!!! You know what??? That was the most brilliant decision anyone could have ever made. My son went from what I taught him myself at home, to a serious chatterbox. He's 16 and is still running his damn mouth. I know when you're lacking in one sense, others are heightened and his hearing of all things is impeccable! I mean he listens to music and teaches himself how to play it on the keyboard just by listening to the notes. These kids with disabilities are amazing and now I know why they get teased! So many so-called "normal" kids are either not raised properly, or are jealous! Trying to spread awareness about anything is rough. I'm trying to spread "The Lupus Word!" I get the most ignorant comments that come my way. Sure there are different types of the disease but don't just assume that all I have is a rash, or some hair loss, or something I can get rid if by taking a vitamin. It IS killing me, my kidneys don't work (don't compare it to a kidney stone or compare my permanently scarred lungs to your common cold, etc). Either listen, ask en educated question, or if you're not interested, just don't say anything!!! Do you get those things a lot? I have developed patience so I cope better, but if I feel like crap, it's hard to be patient when I'm already trying to "not show" that I'm even sick. If you have any ideas for my id love to hear. I am a member of an awesome support group. New friends, more education, guest speakers...it's great, but then there are the ones that want a group so that all they do is whine and get sympathy from others. I don't want sympathy, I've got new goals, realistic ones to be accommodated with behind chronically Ill. When I'm down, I need encouragement and lifting, not awwww poor thing! I've got plans, I'm going back to school to obtain an MSW. I'm 45 not 65. That's too long for my life to be at it's peak. I've got to go go go!!!! Again, any suggestions, tips, or friendly honest advice, let me know. Kriskris68@gmail.com (Kristi)

kparedes @kriskris68 you sure did great with what you did for your son and his education! I can just tell he is a very smart boy! I think you're a very strong voiced person and I wish u the best in your health! I personally don't know anything about Lupus but all I can say is stay positive and prayers to you my friend! I wish your kidney transplant will be a great success!!!! Keep your chin up and always smile. Hugs 💕💙💚💛💜
