saranda @ericka_c LOL.. That's actually a very funny story! Before I had her I had made an appt for my other 2 birds at the vet. Their names are Captain and Jack. When I showed up with 2 birds the receptionist was confused because she thought I was bringing 1 bird named Captain Jack... So then on the spot she asked what their last names were... They didn't have last names and because she had said captain jack all I could think of was that commercial for spiced rum... So I blurted out captain Morgan and Jack Daniels... And it became an alcohol "theme" for their names... So when I got this one she became Tequila Sunrise !❤😜

saranda @jenna0312 I'd suggest you pick up a rescue...there are tens of thousands of these In shelters without homes as they are abandoned quickly and easily. They live 80 yrs and require much attention and maintenance. If you can give an abandoned one a permanent home that would be wonderful but they are a lifetime commitment! 💋❤😍 Thanks for your like!

jh777flowers He is beautiful!!!! They have to be fun! Someone to talk to and talk back to you. I have a cat that talks and talks. It nice too! I've always admired these birds! Take to vet and they will cut the nails ? For $$$! Lol. I cut my cats nails once a month!

saranda @jh777flowers Yes they are fun to talk with! The vet will cut the nails but it's much easier to just file them at home while we are watching tv... Less dramatic than the vet. However, when we put them to sleep for lab work I have them trim them way back for me. I love kitties too but cannot have both. Too dangerous to have mini predators around with birds... All the birds look like tasty turkeys! 😉

And my chronic egg laying baby is going to get to hatch her own duck! We stole it from a duck of course but she won't care what it looks like since she thinks I'm her husband! Lol... That's why her own eggs don't hatch... I don't have the right "stuff"! Going to have to remodel the house to accommodate an indoor duck though! Lol... We are insane! 😱

kimi1208 Yes you are insane....that's why we get along so well ...LOL! My ex said we could never have livestock cause I would have them all in the house ...LOL! Said he would wake up with chickens roosting on the headboard and eggs in the bed, goats eating the remote and standing on kitchen counters, ducks in the bath, and so on! Jesus said to treat them as you would me..... So I don't think I would tie Jesus out in the back yard with a short chain, and throw Him out a 25lb bag of Old Roy and an old nasty paint bucket of dirty water (it could be just me, but seems so wrong for any creature...well, okay, maybe a few of my Ex's heehee).

My brother had an Africran grey, they are the Einstein of birds supposedly and I really enjoyed him... They are all a fascinating & intelligent species and my hats go off the all the Parrot/bird conservations projects out there. I watched an documentary on netflix last year that gave me a deeper awareness of just how delicate and emotionally fragile these birds are. saranda @shellyssssss I almost ended up with a silkie chicken in the house! This big girl in the picture is in love with me (I must be the ugliest bird she's ever seen lol) and she kept laying eggs that wouldn't hatch because they hadn't been fertilized...she was so so sad. So we got a fertilized egg for her to sit on and were prepared to let her keep a baby chicken in the house so she could have a baby. The egg didn't make it altho she tended it so sweet. :(

saranda @shellyssssss After that we ended up rescuing another macaw that was noisy and she hasn't had much interest in laying eggs since then. We have 5 macaws, 1 grey, 1 patty, 5 budgies, and a that's just too many...lol...but it's hard to turn someone away when they need homes. People just don't understand the commitment and after a few yrs they get tired of them. These guys mate for life and live 80 plus yrs... It's tragic for them to be gotten rid of. I hope you can have some someday...

saranda @shellyssssss There are literally thousands without forever homes. The shelters and rescues are so overwhelmed...that's why we didn't stop rescuing when people turn to us... Most rescues give these guys away because they have special needs from being bounced around. I work with owners to help them learn how to work with these special babies. Sometimes people just don't want to work thru it...they'd rather give the bird up.... That's why we have so many. Some of these just aren't adoptable.

saranda @blingnthings birds are the same way! But not everyone likes to snuggle with birdies... My husband used to have tiny dogs but doesn't now...he loves them. We have a big one that I brought when we got married but I know he likes the little ones better. :-) :-) I want him to have a snuggly!

Yes, we've lost our minds! ;) These are difficult to rehome as they live as long as 1oo years. They are beautiful and very misunderstood, smart as primates. 😊

atlantalaurie @saranda I couldn't bear the silence in the house when he passed, so got a little pineapple green cheek conure from a private owner not wanting him anymore. Although I love him dearly, he's a little more petite and fragile than I wanted, so got a sun conure from a private owner who no longer wanted him. So I have them both and have plenty of noise now. LOL. But neither one of them come close to my dearly departed "Windy". I miss him so much. He's in a cherry wood pictured urn on my nightstand.

I said that very same thing once and now I love her the same... it took a few years for her to fill that void tho. It will happen. I'm so glad you thought to cremate. atlantalaurie @saranda Windy used to go to the beach and even bars with me when I lived in FL many years ago. He slept in my bed with me and the cat! He had his own flat screen TV with cable, and had s giggle exactly like mine. He won a photo contest and was featured in the Atlanta Humane Society calendar April 2008. Wish I could show you pics! He was my LIFE.

I got Windy at 4 months old when I got him, so obviously he loved to be handled as I took him everywhere and did everything with him along for the ride. I loved to have him cuddle with me under a blanket while we watched movies, etc. We had a bond that was so amazing.

The bird tequila that's on my page is a rescue. I rescued her at 11 and I thought I'd never be able to hold or touch her as she'd never had contact and was vicious. Here we are 17 yrs later and she'll sleep under blankets with me while we watch tv. It took a few yrs but it was worth the wait.
