I adore vintage Coach Bags and I LOVE a challenge! I found this bag on eBay with a three-word auction title "Distressed Coach Bag" and one picture (2nd pic). I purchased it for $4.99, shipping included. These are the Before and After pics! The bag is not for sale because, despite 5 baths, I can't remove the smokey smell & I can't fix pipping (yet)! But this bag turned out nicer than I expected! I think this is a testament to the resilience and durability of a Coach bag. Just wanted to share! ๐Ÿ˜Š

saalormun
saalormun @hannahlindy . I haven't hunted recently, but I've found 3. One I got for myself but eventually gave to my sil. It was fabric and leather and the fabric was not great. The other two I found with my mom for my mom. One red leather and one black leather. They were from the 80s. We used the coach stuff and every scratch disappeared! Whatever your using is awesome!

maryreid Nice! I got a smokey bag online once and I sat it on my porch for a couple days with baking soda all over it. Got the smell out, but it was a woven bag not leather..
Aug 04Reply
hannahlindy
hannahlindy @mary_reid Smokey bags are the worst to rehab. I give the leather bag multiple baths until the water is clear...the tar releases from the leather and colors the water dark brown ick! But I bet with the bag you had and fabric bags, baking soda would do the trick! Thanks for sharing!

I really like this Coach bag that someone is selling here on poshmark. After seeing pictures of the creed I'm not so sure it's authentic... Even though the seller says it is.. Do you think maybe you can try to help me determine if it is authentic or not?? I don't really want to list the seller here..I don't want mean things to go out about her if its not authentic.. Is there another way I can send you the pics of the bag?? If not I totally understand. Just thought I would ask!! :) thanks in advance either way!! ๐Ÿ˜Š

jenjen106 Thanks so much. It's catty1 she has a bundle for me right now. The coach black crossbody and tan willis...I'm not really familiar with coach bags so I can't tell if it's a good deal for the quality or if they're authentic. Really really appreciate it!
Aug 15Reply
hannahlindy
hannahlindy @jenjen106 Yep! Both are authentic and perfect price! The Willis is nicely priced at $80 for its condition and doesn't look like it needs much work at all. The black bag, the Classic Basic bag #9455, looks in good condition as well and priced right at $40. Make sure to moisturize your bags! Those vintage bags get thirsty๐Ÿ˜Š hope that helps!
Aug 15Reply
jenjen106
jenjen106 @hannahlindy Awesome! Thank you so much for checking on it. Any advice on how to moisturize a bag?
Aug 15Reply
hannahlindy
hannahlindy @jenjen106 I would stick with the Coach Leather Moisturizer. It's $10 and you can't go wrong. If a bag is in rough shape, I would recommend something stronger. When you apply it to your british tan bag, you may freak out! When damp, british tan leather will look as if you ruined the bag! Every flaw and mark will surface. Fear not, make sure apply to entire bag and allow to dry. It will turn out lovely ๐Ÿ˜‰
Aug 15Reply
jenjen106
jenjen106 Just bought! Thanks so much for the advice. I think I would have definitely freaked out if I applied that moisturizer. Thanks so much for the pointers...I now kind of know what to expect. Haha

ehopie
ehopie @hannahlindy ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ’–luv your posts! Quick couple questions...I ordered the turn lock for my black Rambler, which is in excellent vintage condition, but I don't know how to price it, any suggestions? You have inspired me to possibly dye my vintage BT Court, what dye do you use? Thanks and enjoy your retreat!
Aug 17Reply
hannahlindy
hannahlindy @ehopie I am so glad you are getting the turnlock! I hope you found them helpful! It can be hit or miss with Coach's CS. With regard to the Rambler, that's a tough bag because it is available on the Coach website brand new for about $260. If you put the bag on etsy, you would easily get 80-90. On PM, it depends. Black is the most common color vintage coach bag on PM. I would actually price between 80-90 and discount if you really need to sell!
Aug 17Reply
hannahlindy
hannahlindy @ehopie I have found that British tan is the toughest color to re-dye! If you have never dyed before, start with black...it is the most forgiving! I have gone thru 3 british tan dyes, and ruined two bags, because of that silly color! If you google coach re-dying, you will find people's opinions in the various dyes. I use a local minnesota man who custom mixes his dyes for me. I hope this helps! If not, ask away!

chayestx I just received a suede Coach bag I purchased on Poshmark and it needs some serious cleaning. Any suggestions? I also have a fabric bag I'm about to store for the winter that just has typical issues from setting it down in places. Any suggestion for it as well?
Sep 01Reply
hannahlindy
hannahlindy @chayestx Good morning! Suede bags are my nemesis! I have stopped trying to restore them because I have awful luck. You could try the suede eraser and brush, that takes care of light dirt. For more work, I would try a dry cleaners that will clean suede. I have never tried that but have one bag I want to try. With regard to fabric bags, if you tell me what type of fabric the bag is made of (jacquard, sateen, canvas), I can tell you how best to clean it๐Ÿ˜Š
Sep 01Reply
chayestx
chayestx That's what I figured you'd say. My plan was to take it to the cleaners this week so it will be ready to go on the first day of fall! As for the fabric one, its jacquard
Sep 01Reply
hannahlindy
hannahlindy @chayestx Jacquard is pretty easy. I like the coach fabric cleaner, however, lately I use a Magic Eraser sponge. I dampen the sponge and blot the dirty spots, really dampening the spot. But never rubbing! Those sponges work like a dream on the sateen as well. Once removed a blot of hair dye from the salon off a sateen bag. Like magic! Also, advised someone to use the sponge to remove nacho stains from bag they were set to toss! Bag was saved. Hope this helps! If you think of it, I would be curious to know how the suede bag turns out!
Sep 01Reply
chayestx
chayestx Hmmm....that's some quality info there!! I'm definitely going to give that a shot before I tuck it away for the season. I'll definitely let you know about the suede. There is a shoe repair guy that I may take it to. I'll let you know how it turns out!

mauishopgirl
mauishopgirl Smoke seems to stay in leather! I've received a sweater ok posh that is adorable. I've gotten the smoke out of the woven part but it has leather elbow patches and those still smell smokey. I'm also getting a little weary of receiving smokey stuff without disclosure and I have allergies/asthma. It's never stuff I buy cheap either, it's the things I've paid more for. I'm going to try baking soda I guess. Or would you suggest soaking it in just water for hours? (For clothing I usually just spray the whole thing down with simple green and hang in the sun but it won't work on this one because of the leather plus the sweater can't take the sun like denim).
Sep 09Reply
hannahlindy
hannahlindy @mauishopgirl you have me stumped with this one. I now either soak the smokey bag in vinegar and water or baking soda and water. However, neither would work for a sweater! I would also fear the leather dye would bleed into the sweater. Have you tried getting it professionally cleaned once to get smell put?
Sep 09Reply
mauishopgirl
mauishopgirl That's a good idea although I'm on Maui so there aren't good leather places here but I'll give the dry cleaner a shot. So disappointed, it's a gorgeous upcycled vintage sweater, one of a kind. I forgot how it was to have smokey stuff until I started poshing. Hawaii passed a law awhile ago that is strictly enforced and there is no smoking indoors. So you can watch a game in a bar or go dancing and not get smoke in your clothes now. People can't even smoke in the stands of the open air football stadium. Most of my smoker friends now use those vapor ecigs too which actually smell kind of good. Thanks for your help!

I am embarrassed to admit that I never knew restoration of damaged leather bags was possible. I have an old coach bag along with a few others that I wouldn't mind restoring. I'll have to research on tips and tricks on how to do it. Any basic suggestions on how to remove blue dye from jeans off of a coach bag? Also, do restore bags locally for a fee? Thanks!
