I HATE this. Makes me insane! I've had to pay sooooo much bc of people not paying attention.

I actually had an item get lost because of issues with the postage being wrong. (Got something that had a bunch of postage due, had the mail carrier take it back to the post office to hold for a couple of days and it has since been lost. ). If you need boxes, I say go to the local grocery store. They have tons of them in all different sizes and they will generally give them to you for free. That way there isn't any confusion with flat rate boxes:)

@oddballsmom good advice, Susanne!! :) @lorlordeluxe It stinks big time! I just hope this seller knows what to do next time because no buyer ever wants to hear that it's basically their problem.
ctrackwell12
you can order plain priority mail boxes on usps.com. it doesn't cost anything and you just attach the postage to it and ship

Thank you, @ctrackwell12 great advice!!! :)

This is so crazy! I had no clue about this since poshmark suggests getting the free priority mail boxes from USPS
jillk_
@haywoww I agree and think maybe PM or the usps should make it clear about the difference between Priority and Priority Flat Rate. I order them from the website and they always deliver flat rate boxes to me so i use them and just mark the words out with a Sharpie. Funny that just the words alone can make an $11 difference.

How does the receiver get charged? When I've used a flat rate in the past the post office made me pay up front.. Thanks
jillk_
@jnego11 thats what id REALLY like to know!! What I dont get either is it looks like she purchased the postage from the post office. Maybe? Idk. It'll never happen again. After my experience with her .. no way. As a seller I could never see having the mentality "well its not my fault and I'll be out money so I'm not paying for it" .. The way i see it though, if $11 was more important to her than her pride then so be it. Sorry for venting there. I just cant believe how rude some people are. I did send an email to USPS but have yet to hear back from them.
jnego11
Ok wait, so the post office holds it until you come and pay the difference? That's absurd! Not to mention the label that posh gives us is worth something like $15 anyways. I really have such issues with the post office. I get yelled at every time I'm there. I was told I couldn't use one of those envelopes once because what I was mailing wasn't flat...
jillk_
@jnego11 the post man actually asked my boyfriend for the amount or said he could pick it up at the post office. Lol thats crazy they're allowed to yell at you like that!!! I'd be calling and reporting them! I do all of my ordering online. All of their boxes are free and they deliver right to your door. Its quite nice!!
jnego11
Thanks for the info! That is super annoying.
jillk_
@jnego11 yes it is! No problem girl ;)

@jillk_ that's a lil crazy. I had issues with flat rate... But it came from my pocket never anyone else's. It was crazy I spend 60$ in shipping In a week, before I figured out what I was doing wrong. Lol I always go into the post office just to make sure the weight is ok. I would of sent it back
jillk_
@maryamj I'm sorry but Idk what you're talking about?
chevee02
@jillk_ I know this is an old post but I just wanted to make sure Im understanding this correctly. New Posher here! I started off selling on poshmark with flat rate boxes (which I now know is a no-no) and none of my buyers complained of having to pay. So, I assumed it was okay. Had them sent to me from the website and everything. Then, recently I had a buyer tell me she had to pay $3 in shipping and I felt HORRIBLE.
chevee02
@jillk_ cont. So you're telling me all I had to do was scribble out "flat rate" and she wouldn't of had to pay? Would I have had to pay? I don't have a problem with paying but I'd like to avoid paying if at all possible.
daytripper
@chevee02 I was wondering if I understood correctly as well. Did you find out if what you said up there was right?
jillk_
@chevee02 sorry I'm just seeing this - in my experience I've always scratched it out and still to this day have not had a problem! I do black it all the way out with a Sharpie.
