@dvacante there is one thing i have been looking for for ages. if you go in my closet and go to the sold section you will find a listing of a Stratton comact set. i am looking for the cigarette case. almost nabbed one on ebayUK last year, but i was outbid at the last minute. So there are a couple of things. I wear a 6 1/2 and am interested in any gently used loubitons at good prices and I need a 1 carat "ish" round or square cut real not treated ruby to put in an antique setting I have. If you happen across these tag me please. Thanks for offerring.

@dvacante were you looking for a raw ruby? i can check my stash of lose gem stones and see what i can come up with. here is a really off the wall idea, but its helped me in a similar situation recently. since gold has gone up and down etc, a lot of pawn shops and people that buy gold and silver have a stash of extra gemstones that they will be willing to get rid of for next to nothing. check them out. i got such a good deal on the raw emerald i needed. i bought a bunch of different stones. i think i got 30+ for 25 bucks. call around. its worth it.

My local pawnshops can't authenticate anything but diamonds and gold. I could ask if they have a stash of stones though. I have a beautiful 1930 platinum setting with small diamonds on the sides. It had a 1+ carat very nice diamond in it that my mother took out and put on a gold band. My sister has it but let me have the setting (I got a second 1930s diamond ring) and I would love a ruby in it. Please check your stash. The diamond was round cut but the setting could hold a square diamond. I priced it with my jeweler a while back and I can't remember what he quoted me but it was much more than I thought it would be. Thanks for all your help.

@dvacante i am due for a visit to mine, so absolutely yes i will take a look for you. i understand the need for one. more than likely i can find one that is period to your piece. my favourite pawn broker keeps a bucket for me to go through and i will go in from time to time and nab them up. ( you would not believe the gems and settings people give up for scrap)

@dvacante that's the thing, it's this set I want to complete. The red enamel is super hard to find. I have seen one come up on auction in the 10 years I have been searching for one. Only to be outbid at the last minute :( (I hate ebay)

Plus...what does the word "Vintage" mean in terms of age or anything else it connotes? Is there any way of proving truthfulness or how does one go about finding out the truth! I purchased an item that clearly showed it as having a verdigris finish, she provided info regarding the artist which was great in response to a couple of normal questions about it. When I received it, I was disappointed to find it didn't come close to the finish in the pic, but liked the item enough to keep it. But I

gave her 3 out of 4 or 4 out of 5 stars because of the pictures being a little misleading though I was happy about the rest of the aspects of her service and said so nicely and clearly. @satchel09 as for the vintage items in my closet, I consider vintage to be 25 years or older. Most of the pieces I have that are vintage I have verified with research or have had for 25 years or more.
