Selling used makeup is NOT allowed on Poshmark. Saying you only "swatched" is still used. Once you put fingers/brush in it, it's used. If you were to go to the store to buy makeup would you buy something that was used, "swatched" ? I think not, so why would you sell used to others?Selling & buying used makeup is very unsanitary because you don't know if the person has an illness they could be spreading to you, even if they say they'll clean it with alcohol before mailing. Follow the rules please

gailsjewels @mcjayne Hi, sorry for the late reply but I didn't see this that you posted. I posted this because of all the gross used makeup being sold on here. This girl was even selling "USED" personal lubricant. Omg that took the cake. I just can't believe what people are selling in here. Anyway I'm glad you liked it and you have a great closet. 💐💕😊

jhelpa01 @gailsjewels Hi, that's ok. I am just so glad that I am not the only one who feel like I do. I did see he personal lubricant. WHAT!!! People are selling baby and kids clothing, used bathing suits, bras and electrics. I guess they did not ready the policy. 😬

jhelpa01 @gailsjewels I did send a email to PoshMark Support to ask if they had changed their policy to include these items. The policy is the same no changes. It is like EBAY. 😜😜😜

gailsjewels @siennaacre Hi , I know right? It's really gross when they sell used or swatched makeup. I've seen a lot where it's even half gone and they try and sell it. All I can say for people who buy it, is, hope y'all have a great infectious disease doctor. And used mascara, just don't understand. Thanks for your comment and stopping by. Have a beautiful day. 💐💕😊

kafm73
kafm73 I just sent in a complaint re: used makeup. Some of it looked like it had been rolling around in their makeup bag for the better part of the year . As a former clinical microbiologist, it takes a minuscule amount of bacteria to turn into a raging eye infection...or some other infection (skin, etc). Why risk it? The nerve of the sellers trying to make $ off of their used mess!

gailsjewels @kafm73 Im glad you did. There are way too many people selling their used makeup on here. I just don't understand why anyone would want to buy used makeup. It's so gross.

ellemodes
ellemodes @kafm73 I'm so happy someone said something about this!!! It's so true. I'm also studying microbiology in school right now. I've heard from my professors that one individual's bacteria can basically breed with another person's bacteria and create new bacteria which can create a new illness that can infect a whole population. So it's really messed up that people are selling there used stuff to uneducated/ignorant individuals and putting us all at risk for some kind of outbreak.
May 20Reply
ellemodes
ellemodes @gailsjewels So happy I'm not the only one who's really pissed about this
May 20Reply
kafm73
kafm73 @ellemodes I hope you're enjoying the wonderful world of Microbiology! I love it and thoroughly enjoyed my 10+ years in the lab, but for all of its amazing teachings, there is a downside: you become hyper-aware of the casual nature of germ transmission...the easiest way to prevent infection and disease is a simple hand washing, and yet here these people are, selling cosmetics and the like that they have touched not only with their hands, but also their lips and eyes, etc.!!
May 24Reply
kafm73
kafm73 @realria that is exactly the scenario I presented to them when I submitted my complaint, who will be held responsible when a customer contracts an eye infection or a rampant Staph infection. I am not being overly dramatic when I say that these things can kill you at the worst and make you wish you were dead at the very least if you were to become ill.
May 24Reply

gailsjewels @realria Hello and thank you for your comments. Sorry for the late reply. Been dealing with my sick dog. This is why I posted this in hopes to warn people but it doesn't seem to do any good.
May 24Reply
gailsjewels
gailsjewels I own my own cosmetic company and I make all my makeup in a lab wearing gloves and a mask. I use a sealed sifter inside my jars along with it being sealed on the outside for protection. The jars I show in my page are only used for showing the colors. I never send out those jars. I know my product is safe. Never used or "swatches".
May 24Reply
gailsjewels
gailsjewels @kafm73 @realria the comment above was for both you lovely ladies. Thank you for your comments regarding this issue. I don't know why anyone would want to buy used makeup. It's so gross.
May 24Reply
kafm73
kafm73 @gailsjewels I guess you hit a nerve, and I'm glad there are at least a few of us who feel like PoshMark has dropped the ball in policing the sale of used cosmetics. I'm intrigued by your cosmetic-making venture. I myself have recently become interested in making perfume, so to speak, with essential oil's. That led to me making my own whipped Shea body butter, cocoa butter bars, etc. using sterile technique, of course!
May 24Reply
kafm73
kafm73 @realria The antibiotics themselves can cause serious illness and death. A former co-worker mines mother had an ingrown toenail that became infected. She was put on anabiotic's and then developed Clostridium difficle toxin related colitis and died... Think about that, and ingrown toe now and two weeks later she's dead. The antibiotics kill off the good gut flora as well as the bad, allowing C. difficle to run rampant and produce toxins. Clindamycin has been known to cause this.

cant_swatch77
cant_swatch77 Asking sellers about this gets you (1) blocked and (2) comments hidden or deleted. Not sure why I tried to take on the flag on this issue. Complaints, reporting and mentioning to sellers has gotten zero (0) results. I'm discouraged to say the least.
May 27Reply
czuppo
czuppo I knew I wasn't the only one. Unfortunately, I block then report. @cant_swatch77 I find it tremendously disappointing when I'm excited about a listing only to find out it's been "swatched" which means *used*. This is one of those "the rules don't apply to me" things. Yes, it's gross, unsanitary, and perhaps carries legal consequences (see https://poshmark.com/listing/Its-is-ILLEGAL-to-SELL-and-BUY-USED-makeup-536afc6b5d5f4e22b60a7caf)

Nov 08Reply
czuppo
czuppo @cartermac789 Erg. Only recently was I clued in that there are cosmetics frauds that sell replicas. I thought it was only limited to things like the Kylie lippies and Urban Decay [kinds of] palettes but I guess it's not. Even if the Tarte product you got wasn't a replica it sounds like it may have been old or perhaps spoiled. Ugh, bummer!
Jan 14Reply
czuppo
czuppo @cartermac789 As to Posh enforcing their policies, I see a lot of products turned in as replicas when I review listings so may there's hope. SMH trouble that it is sometimes hard to tell. After a few bad experiences myself [rancid lipstick anyone? GROSS.] I have backed off buying resale lipsticks for sure. Other things, maybe, but I'm cautious.

hallieberry16
hallieberry16 How do you report someone who has used makeup on here ?
Jan 31Reply
czuppo
czuppo @hallieberry16 If they have listed it as NWT I choose Mistagged Item then Mistagged Condition. I will also report that same listing as Unsupported Item and then choose Prohibited/Illegal. Why Posh combines Probhitied (their rules) and Illegal (the law's rules) I don't know. There seems to be a strong "the rules don't apply to me" attitude on this subject.

mcjayne
mcjayne This is something I will never understand. I don’t share makeup with anyone. People don’t understand that it actually takes a 500 degree medical autoclave to rid bacteria from cosmetics, & render product unusable. Does Posh even look when we report? I’ve literally been reporting one girl for 8 months & her nasty 💩 is still for sale. Think about how much $ Posh would lose, if they REALLY enforced the non compliant sellers!
Aug 26Reply
mcjayne
mcjayne As a makeup seller & ex medical professional, this is dangerous & it’s going to take something ugly to stop them. Oh, like them getting sued for someone selling used mascara...hello pink eye or worse. I don’t get it. I never will. It cuts into the sales of us legitimate sellers who are playing by the rules, it’s so defeating somedays. I have been on here 6 years, maybe it’s too long, lol.

Again you just can’t take things out of people’s closet and use it w/o their permission. It’s wrong and also against posh policy.

cfmelody
cfmelody Thank you for this post! Firstly Sephora allows used makeup returns with receipt so people can get their money back for items they dislike. Secondly poshmark policy states makeup must be with original packaging, unswatched, unopened, and unused. Thirdly, as others stated the potential diseases from eye or lip makeup um pink eye, herpes, etc. is basic health safety taught in elementary. You can report these listings as unsupported/ illegal items to have them removed.

May 24Reply
gailsjewels
gailsjewels @pixadoodle are you saying you reported me for selling used lipgloss? Because mine is not used. I own my own cosmetics company and make all my lipgloss. Nothing is ever used or swatched that I sell. I have one that I only use for pic swatches and I do not sell that one. All my lipgloss/lipstick comes with a seal around it. So I’m not really sure why you reported me. 🤷🏻‍♀️

pergie
pergie Amen!!!! I get SUPER pissed every time I go looking for something on here because 90% of what I find is used or swatched!! And that these airheads think this is acceptable infuriates me! You could end up with infections or even STDs from using someone else's used make up!! Why won't Posh do anything to enforce this? Allure even wrote an article that says Posh has its own section for used make up??? Is this true?!
Jan 20Reply
gailsjewels
gailsjewels @pergie yes I saw that article too. I don’t know but I know they say you aren’t allowed to sell used or swatched makeup. But who honestly knows anymore? I hear on some of the groups that they break their own rules and it’s starting to look like eBay now. So I just don’t know anymore. The mineral makeup that I make I never swatch it. I have samples that are for swatching only. Then I safely seal on the inside as well as the outside. I’ve been making mineral makeup for about 6 years now.

primandplum So many people on here are admitting that they’re selling used makeup! That’s so gross! I’m a consultant for Beautycounter, and not only would I get in trouble with them for selling used makeup and personal care products, but it’s against the rules on Poshmark. Plus, I would just feel bad about selling anything tainted with germs to another human being. ESPECIALLY right now while COVID-19 is so prevalent.

gailsjewels @tagsaletrendy I personally don’t do this at ulta or anywhere because I know everyone else is using the same stuff. Too many bacteria’s and stuff and Lord only knows what you’d get from using what everyone else is using. Not worth the risk. It’s not allowed on Poshmark anyway, their rules for makeup.
