lovedpirate No. Lol. The thing the does the stretching is called a taper. And once you get to that size of the taper (because it's skinny on one end and larger in the other), you use a plug until you put the next size taper in.

lovedpirate When you get to your desired size you can also put a tunnel in, which is exactly what it sounds like. Lol. They're hollow and you can get them in plastic, metal, or silicone. I think why so many people call them "gauges" is because the size of the taper and corresponding plug is a gauge size ranging from 18g (which is the size of a normal earring such as this) and up.

lovedpirate Tapers, plugs, and tunnels can be made out of a variety of materials such as plastic, metal, stone, etc. but tapers and plugs are not made out of silicone.

lovedpirate Sometimes when I really want to wear regular earrings I'll put my clear silicones in and put the post through it and use the backings that have the wide plastic around it to hold it.
