stefielouhoo @chellesquirrel haha, thanks. I was so frustrated because some made an offer for an item- I kid you not, they wanted to pay, and I kid you not, a discount of 93% of! So in order not to be a complete jerk, I had to write that lol.

wildflowerlinen
wildflowerlinen This is great - lol!! I usually send a canned response: "Thank you for your offer! I'm going to counter at $thismuch which is my lowest. Hope that works for you!" I can't believe that offer you got!!
Jul 16Reply
stefielouhoo
stefielouhoo @wildflowerlinen Haha- that's a really good thing to say too! I don't ever like being mean, but really... Like 20 buck for an item that's 350 and I just had it dry cleaned? I just didn't know how to respond without screaming. You can use it if you want.

kingsroad
kingsroad @stefielouhoo My first thought was: if people can't read the listing that says Price Firm, they are nit the type that would read a listing like this. But i think that perhaps a listing that we could tag low ballets in is a great idea. Hmmm.
Nov 01Reply
kingsroad
kingsroad @stefielouhoo I am torn about the entire haggling thing anyway. I used to live in, & have travelled extensively in the Middle East and I refused to haggle there too. I just can't do it. I used to go to a shop and tell the owner immediately (or the designated haggle person who is assigned to follow you around and try to haggle on anything that you even look at: "Do not say one word to me or I won't buy anything"...it was hilarious
Nov 01Reply
kingsroad
kingsroad @stefielouhoo They would almost explode and rarely could they maintain themselves. We would always end up laughing which was the only way that I could deal with it. Anyway...I sort of feel that there is a culture that is fostered with low balling here. The ridiculously low offers ( that can't be considered offers) do confuse me. Surely people respond or they wouldn't do it?
Nov 01Reply
kingsroad
kingsroad @stefielouhoo if there weren't a block user button, I don't know what I would do. I have been chastised for just refusing an offer and not countering. But when people offer me something that shows that they don't find value in my offering, I have no desire to sell it to them. I would prefer that it stay in my closet until someone who loves it comes along...
Nov 01Reply
stefielouhoo
stefielouhoo @blscheffer Yeah.... It's kinda a weird little conundrum. I don't really know how the handle it... It stresses me out! 😬
Nov 01Reply
kingsroad
kingsroad @stefielouhoo I had someone write that she didn't think that $3 would be a big deal. Well, it must have been to her because she didn't buy the top. I don't prove my items high so that I can give big discounts so I refuse most offers. I never sell under ten percent if asking price, if that, and it seems to make quite a few people mad.
Nov 01Reply
kingsroad
kingsroad @stefielouhoo have been tempted to make a listing that says that prices are firm and I do not accept offers just to avoid the stress but I am trying to learn how not to let it bother me.
Nov 01Reply
stefielouhoo
stefielouhoo @blscheffer I can't believe that someone was rude when you declined! I mean I know some people love the make an offer, but for me.... It's a little much. I'm willing to work with someone yo an extent but when someone is trying to take 50% off the already 50% discounted price, it's too much!
Nov 01Reply
kingsroad
kingsroad @stefielouhoo Many of us have a listing that says, "like the item but not the price? Make me an offer."...Often as one of our first listings. I think hat, because if that, we will always have lots of low ballers. If you read what's on the web regarding Poshmark, there is a lot of advice to lowball also... Perhaps we need to blog more!
Nov 01Reply
stefielouhoo
stefielouhoo @blscheffer haha.... Maybe Posh should have loose guidelines for it. IDK, maybe it's a learning curve. But it's kinda annoying because the clothes in my closet were mostly bought by me for me... And I feel a connection with them even if I know I'm going to sell them for any number of reasons. That might sound silly, lol.
Nov 01Reply
kingsroad
kingsroad @stefielouhoo It stresses me out too. And I have another thing: I feel bad for all of the people who just buy... Like I would be cheating them all if they are paying more than I am willing to sell it for...I don't mind a few dollars. I am willing to pay more to have something that I love, to avoid haggling or waiting & wondering... But more than that, I would feel bad.
Nov 01Reply
kingsroad
kingsroad @stefielouhoo That is just me... But that means that I can't inflate the price drastically over what I am willing to take to please the bargain hunters. I mean, it's already a bargain! A definite conundrum indeed!
Nov 01Reply
stefielouhoo
stefielouhoo @blscheffer lol, well I'm glad I'm not the only one feeling sheepish about it!
Nov 01Reply
kingsroad
kingsroad @stefielouhoo That does not sound silly at all. I feel the same way! Posh seems to be very hands off...the founder seems to be really proud of the way that a community has been created and the individual creativity that has arisen...he always mentions that in interviews. I think that part of that approach does mean that we are on our own with this issue!

corvidium
corvidium @stefielouhoo I just remembered: before discovering Posh, I used to sell on EBay. They have an offer button but no ability to counter, I believe, although not positive since I never enabled it...cool that on each listing you can choose to accept offers or not. Anyway, I read in the forum that there is a setting where you can choose not to even see offers below a certain amount... It auto-declines. Wouldn't that be AWESOME!!!!!
Nov 04Reply
stefielouhoo
stefielouhoo @blscheffer OMG! That would be soooo perfect! You should present that idea to Posh because I think it's completely something that should be considered. I feel like it's only getting worse.
Nov 04Reply
kingsroad
kingsroad @stefielouhoo Wouldn't it????? They must know about it...I will present it to them though. It would be sooooo cool. So much less stressful. And the low ballers could still lowball. It seems like a win win. Lol. I wonder how hard the platform is to make...they say that they have lots of things planned. Let's hope that this is one of them!

stefielouhoo @gerilaney I just received $25 JCrew tweed coat. I am very much hoping that you entered that figure by mistake. But in the case that that was fully intentional, I need to share the financial breakdown. First, it is a coat that retails well over $300. I have it marked down approximately 75%, Posh takes an extra 20% off, and you just asked for ANOTHER 75% off.
Oct 08Reply
stefielouhoo
stefielouhoo @gerilaney With your very low offer, this is total of 170% discount. I would have to give you the coat and, in addition send you 70% credit of my listing price to make your offer work. I'm certain, that this would not be acceptable to you if you were selling items.
Oct 08Reply
gerilaney
gerilaney I am very sorry did not mean to offend. I am an avid thrift shopper at higher end establishments and have know with the time and discounts that are already been offered through promotions and end of season sales that prices can get very low. I do not mean any disrespect but I know that if it isn't selling then perhaps something is better than nothing. I once again meant no disrespect to you, and you do have very nice arrangement of items.

Got a 2 star for countering an offer and they accepted, said that seller needs to work on responsiveness (whatever that means)😒. mysticgoddess33 TY for posting this! As a newbie who has only purchased so far, I tried to find "offer etiquette" so as not to offend anyone unintentionally. I am not a big "haggler", but some encourage making offers so I was very nervous to try without any guidelines :-( eBay has a lot of info on making offers but hard to easily find guidelines for Poshmark! Blessings :-)

pinotgrigiogirl
pinotgrigiogirl @kingsroad Hi. Jumping in to this covo. I seem to recall that PM replaced the "decline" button with a "price is firm" or words to that effect button. It was only there for a week or two and then mysteriously disappeared. I thought it was great because it seemed less harsh and it stopped the silly 1 to 2 dollar counter offers. Did I just dream it? 😉

shelpen
shelpen I was upset with posh about letting so many people still sell perfume, used make up and all the rest, I told them they ought to insist each new person who registers must read and sign the agreement on what they will and will not sell. I Think what you stated above should be part of that. People just sign up with no idea what's going on.

Nov 24Reply
stefielouhoo
stefielouhoo @suzmamj Hi! It’s nice to meet you Suzanne. I’m going to answer your questions as best as I possibly can. Every listing I create is done using my training in graphic arts. Since I do sell boutique items, I use stock photos to create my listings- as you probably noticed, my closet is a little different than most. I take great pride and lots of time in its creation.
Nov 24Reply
stefielouhoo
stefielouhoo @suzmamj Almost always, on top of using purely stock photos, I almost always take my own pictures as well. While this is not necessary and actually quite uncommon in large boutique closets, it is generally my preference. As a caveat to that, I do have a rare incurable blood disorder while often denies my brain of oxygen which leads to extreme dizziness and fainting.
Nov 24Reply
stefielouhoo
stefielouhoo @suzmamj When I am symptomatic in this way, is nearly impossible to be taking my own pictures. Currently, many of my newest items have not been photographed by me along with the stock photos as my body simply will not allow it. If items do not yet have my own photos, this is why, eventually they will. Unfortunately, the human body does what it needs to do to survive. Hopefully this sheds light on your questions.💓
Nov 24Reply
suzmamj
suzmamj @stefielouhoo hi it’s nice to meet you also. I’m sorry you’re not feeling well and are burdened by this disorder. I struggle with ailments also and while not at work I spend a lot of time in bed. My office area is overflowing with items I have yet to list because don’t have the energy or ability to set up photo shoots as often as I would like.
Nov 24Reply
suzmamj
suzmamj @stefielouhoo I’ve had bad experiences buying boutique items with only the stock photos that is why I ask for actual photos. I will just like your items and check back later for updates. If I see something I would like to purchase immediately maybe you could just take a quick shot of it. Nothing fancy, just a close-up of the material and shape of the garment. If it’s not too much bother. I completely understand the struggle with our bodies and health. Don’t push yourself and do take care. ✨😊✨
Nov 24Reply
stefielouhoo
stefielouhoo @sflannigan2014 so, from your profile picture you look like you might be a nice person, but you have been on Posh since 2015 and I’m shaking my head, like why did this girl just offer me the lowest lowballing I’ve ever seen, you are asking for a MORE THAN 75% DISCOUNT! That’s less than I paid for my item, and that’s before Posh takes 20%. I’d literally be paying YOU for my item. SMH! So offended!
Jan 03Reply
sflannigan2014
sflannigan2014 @stefielouhoo I honestly don't know how much this item normally costs. Most people post items way more expensive than what they paid for. Also, I would appreciate it if you're not trashing me on here. Part of bidding is offering a price. One can offer higher or lower, but can also kindly decline. I do not appreciate you absurd rudeness. It was not a final offer, I was actually going to offer more if you declined, but now I prefer to not do business with you EVER. please grow up.
