I am a seller, but I also buy. I have seen many comments under listings where buyers had issues with their purchases--- not arriving in a timely manner, not getting an item as described, or, never getting the item at all. Problems are not all that common, but these tips will help protect you as a buyer. See my useful tips in comment section below. PLEASE USE THIS THREAD FOR CONSTRUCTIVE TIPS, NOT VENTING. WE HAVE ALL EXPERIENCED UNFAIR RATINGS AS SELLERS. THIS IS MEANT TO HELP BUYERS. THANKS!

First, look at the seller's closet. Go to the "ABOUT" section, and see if they have received any love notes. If they have received 3 love notes, for example, but have sold 40 items, there could be a problem. To see how many items thy have sold, go filter out by AVAILABILITY >SOLD.
peacehopelove
I usually ask a question about the item to see if they will get back to me in a timely fashion. This can reflect their commitment to being a good seller.
peacehopelove
Next, I make an offer. You can save money this way, but remember, most sellers get annoyed by a low ball offer. If an item is listed at $39 and you offer $10, you probably won't get it for that amount. If you offered $25, the seller may work with you. With that being said, some prices are already fair, and they might not come down much at all.
peacehopelove
When buying, I always check the seller's discount. If I can save considerably on 2 or 3 items, I will look through and see if anything catches my eye. Remember, you can make a bundle offer. See my separate listing in my closet explaining how, if you are new to Posh.

I always ask if something is damaged before purchasing because then if they respond "no" but the item comes damaged, you have written record of it in the comments section to show PM support. I've heard of people taping themselves opening the package (just like some do with packaging and shipping) to have time stamped proof of how an item arrived 💜
peacehopelove
@eggl16 Good idea! TY
peacehopelove
If you should receive your purchase and it is damaged or not as described, DO NOT ACCEPT THE ORDER. Report the problem to Poshmark via the tab on your order page. Take photos and upload them to Poshmark. You will see where on the Report a Problem page. You must do this ASAP.
beegibbs
@peacehopelove @peacehopelove this is a 'tip'? There could be a problem "if a seller has sold 40 items but has only received 3 love notes"? You're advising others to judge a seller by what buyers may or may not do. 🤦🏼♀️ How someone represents them self as a seller should, in no way, be based on or determined by how many love notes were (or were not) left; something that is out of the seller's hands.
peacehopelove
@beegibbs That's what I do personally. Everyone will do what they think is best. Thanks for the input.
peacehopelove
@beegibbs To further explain why I do it personally when buying, is that most people leave a rating. And only the 5 star ratings end up in love notes.
pwall2012
I just love this. There are so many new people joining every day and they have no idea about a lot of these things. with us old-timers, if we don't explain it, they'll get taken for and I just feel bad for them. I try and help out new poshers when ever possible whether they want my advice or not LOL

This is grrrrrrrrreat! 👍 the only thing I would add (and this comes from me as a seller, not a buyer) is to take note when the seller mailed the item- NOT how long it took the lost office to deliver- when considering that on your rating or note. Of you give a seller negative feedback over something they do not control i.e. speed of usps, how the item fit you/how the color looked on you (unless it was misrepresented) the seller may not want to do business with you anymore. ✌💕
peacehopelove
@arbitrarilychic Good point! Thanks so much for sharing!! You are so right!💗💕😘

peacehopelove
You can usually tell what kind of a seller one is by their dialog with you. Think of a question to ask them. Wait and see how timely the response is, but also what they say. If they have an "attitude", don't buy from them. Could reflect worse things to come. A seller should be very polite and respectful of the buyer.
peacehopelove
There are reasons why a seller, for example myself, may not get back to you for a few hours. This doesn't mean the seller isn't caring or is not responsible. Because of where I live, when I'm out, I don't always get a signal due to mountains and hills. But, if it's 1 or 2 days or more I would steer clear.
peacehopelove
Some sellers take forever to ship. If you need to get the item by a certain time, ASK BEFORE BUYING when they will be shipping it. I've bought items that the seller canceled the order on, a few days after purchase.. I've also bought items that took a well to be mailed. UNPROFESSIONAL and disappointing.

As a new posher, thank you so much for all the great advice! I've already done a lot of purchasing in the past couple of days and eagerly awaiting my items! My favorite tip is not to reply to buyers in a manner that is anything less than polite and pleasant! Let's remember we are nowhere without our customers! I have seen some really rude commentary between poshers and it deterred me from shopping the closet all together! Again thanks for all the advice to us newby's! ❤️
peacehopelove
@lesdan Amen! I can't agree more! Thank you!

@peacehopelove I love this post. I think these are also great tips for a seller. If you want to be a successful poshmark seller then you need to ---▪️Interact in a friendly manner. ( It's not just what you say it's how you say it) ▪️Ship the item ASAP --Same Day or Next Day. Buyers should always check the sellers shipping average. I never buy from anyone who takes more then 2days to ship on avg.
kristendean80
@peacehopelove Another Buyer Tip---- Read the comments under the items that have already SOLD. Poshmark doesn't show any negative reviews but closet comments are never deleted. A lot of times buyers will comment under the item they purchased if there was an issue.
peacehopelove
@kristendean80 Thank you! Excellent, excellent tips! Why didn't I think of them? LOL 😘

@arbitrarilychic 100% agree on this. I received a 1 star rating because a sweater was warm!! I am not even sure what to do with that info?! Also, because of a postal delay I had no control over - they get there mail held and didn't go pick it up. Those are my only negative reviews and it eats me up! Review what the seller can control! And ask questions. I could have saved you from ordering a warm sweater if you asked 😂
peacehopelove
@beccaribs11 Very good point! I have had a couple of those, too!! Try not to let it bother you...xo
beccaribs11
Another buying tip I've found useful has been looking at the prices they have sold things at. Some sellers post very high but then sell at reduced costs where others sell at a consistently fair rate. Checking the comments of a few items is helpful to see what kind of interactions they've had with other costumers. And the more detail in the description, and the more honest, the better. Don't just say GUC - explain why it is only good verses EUC 😄
arbitrarilychic
@beccaribs11 I feel you, I have over 800 sales, and (2) 1 star ratings that ihyoer focus one; one, from Dec 2015 was for "shipping time" she received the item within TWO DAYS- and it was delivered the morning of NYE, in plenty of time to wear out, if that was the goal. I was furious. Second was for a NIP pair of jeans that she said was "dirty" and took top long (also mailed same day). The two small instances has made me reluctant to sell to new buyers with no history, but it goes two ways. 🤔✌💕
mustangctg
I had someone give a 2 star rating because she said lacked cleanliness.....they were shoes that the only thing that was dirty (a little) was the bottoms. I clearly stated "worn" and even posted a pic of the bottoms. AND price reduced them over half because she started making low ball offers. If you get something for almost nothing and the seller is truthful don't put a bad rating....if Your that dissatisfied just send it back.
peacehopelove
@beccaribs11 good tips

A LARGE CLOSET CAN BE OVERWHELMING TO A BUYER, BUT MAY HAVE JUST WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING TO BUY. UTILIZE THE FILTERS, TO FIND YOUR SIZE AND CATEGORY, COLOR, AND PRICE YOU ARE LOOKING FOR. ON THE COMPUTER, LOOK TO YOUR LEFT. ON AN IPAD, LOOK AT THE UPPER RIGHT FOR A FUNNEL.
peacehopelove
THE UP AND DOWN ARROWS NEXT TO THE FILTER ALLOW YOU TO ORDER YOUR SEARCH RESULTS, FOR INSTANCE, FROM LOW PRICE TO HIGH.
peacehopelove
WHEN SEARCHING ON THE "SHOP" PAGE, select your brand, or category, like "tops", then use the filters to get to the specific item you are looking for. Check to see when the item was last updated. If it was updated 6 months ago, I would move on. It indicates the seller probably isn't active.
peacehopelove
REMEMBER TO MAKE AN OFFER! YOU HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE BY DOING SO! AVOID COMMENTING ABOUT PRICE. USE THE OFFER BUTTON.

TO MAKE A BUNDLE OFFER IS EASY. SEE MY LISTING FOR A STEP BY STEP ON HOW. REMEMBER: THE GUIDE TO POSHMARK IS FULL OF HELPFUL INFO, AND STEP BY STEP PHOTOS.

oui_ones
@peacehopelove just to clarify, 5 star ratings don't end up in love notes, only if they leave a comment along with the 5star rating will it show. The over all seller rating can be found in the about, and I believe it breaks it down to how many of each star a seller had received. I myself as a buyer, only leave notes if I'm thrilled and plan on keeping forever.
oui_ones
@peacehopelove I just leave a simple 5 star, if I love it but may sell it later down the road. That way if I got a screaming deal, I'm not expected to let something go for the same price if I choose to sell higher. 🙃😆

@peacehopelove what do we do about theses sellers who sell knock off, as in fake brand products. I have confronted so many and they always respond "am not the only one doing it" or " I got it off here too". I have reported so many times to Poshmark but I feel that they don't really do anything about it. Some are even bold as to put in the description that the products they sell are not real, like uhm excuse me? Lol.
peacehopelove
@faithbabs There isn't much you can do besides report them. And boycott them. Rather than using the Report User button, I would send Poshmark an email.
peacehopelove

This may be redundant, and it seems so simple- but ask questions! I recently made a custom order, the seller had awesome feedback, but I was still hesitant bc of Posh no return policy. I asked a million questions, and I could not have been happier with my order! And, hopefully I didn't get on the sellers nerves, but bc I was so thrilled, I'd absolutely shop again and for bc I felt she listened and the product I received was top notch! ✌💕

Crisp, clear, bright photos. I think it makes for a more "honest" looking closet. I've also stopped giving my judgements on whether I think a "6 or 8 could fit a medium", and tell people to take my listed measurements and compare to another piece they may already have that has a fit they like. Too many people give out bad reviews for items not fitting as they hoped.
ashleyminkus
And my opinion on what a medium can fit could be vastly different from someone else's. We've all shopped online, it's up to buyers to take some responsibility for purchasing things they haven't been able to try on and take it with a grain of salt.
ashleyminkus
Also, on the same line as personal opinions on size, I no longer say in my description what I think the color is, my photos should speak for themselves, and 5 different people can all have different opinions on what "bright green" may mean.
ashleyminkus
Just last night i had a case opened against me after the buyer made a comment saying the dress was more pastel green than emerald green... When per the photos, the dress was neither, but rather a regular, bright green. Thankfully I never put in a descriptor for what color green I thought the dress was and she never asked... wel'll see what happens!
peacehopelove
@ashleyminkus I'm sorry you've had some unfair reviews. This post specifically says BUYER'S tips. Please limit your comments to only tips that will help buyers, not sellers. The intent of this listing is to help buyers become more savvy, only. THANK YOU!

I would add.. sellers should be 100% honest about the condition of an item! It is like the saying dress for the job you WANT to have, right. If there is doubt about something you want to sell, get a friend to take a look at it. Even NEW items can have flaws. Being a Posher and a buyer, I say this. Nothing is worse then getting an item that you want. That you have been waiting for. Just to find a whole in it, or to see it is faded when you say it is not.
peacehopelove
@joromartin I agree. Thank you. I've received items that I was disappointed in. A couple, I did not accept. Thanks!

@peacehopelove One *important* thing for buyers to remember is that they must tag the seller when asking a question in a listing. (@ before the closet name so my tag is @rjrkpt). If you do not tag the seller they never see your question! The only way they might notice it is if they were editing their listing and happened to scroll down to see that a question was asked. It's the most common reason for delays in communication. Rachel

@cynenergy hi welcome to Poshmark! How I use items sold and love notes as a buyer is, I look to see how many total sales they've had and then the love notes should be somewhere around the same figure maybe at least 75%. So if you've sold six things I would look at your closet and look at the love notes and expect to find at least four or five love notes. Xxoo

@cynenergy And welcome to Poshmark!

jmata4641
Hi, on your comment to view "Love notes vs items sold" I'd have to say this is where I get concerned. I've received many 6 star ratings without notes attached and even myself as a buyer and seller find it odd ( referring to my own closet) to see sales with minimal notes. Advice?
peacehopelove
@jmata4641 Well, as a buyer, and if I really was interested in an item, I would read comments underneath sold items to try to get a feel for the seller. Primarily to see if customers complained about slow shipping or about anything. As far as getting your customers to write love notes, try to go above and beyond with wrapping, thank you notes, fast shipping and a small gift. Xo
jmata4641
@peacehopelove Thanks, I do all the above but a free gift. . . Input is Greatly appreciated. Thank you for the amazing tips!
peacehopelove
@jmata4641 Of course! YW! It's a joint effort! Xo

If a seller lists measurements, consider measuring yourself to ensure that the item fits how you want. As we all know, different brands fit differently. As others have said, I always ask questions to make sure I know what I’m getting. As a seller, I try to answer any questions I might have when listing to make it easier for my buyers. 👍
peacehopelove
@crmurph Great tip! Thank you!
peacehopelove
@esupofo Welcome to Poshmark! Amy

@peacehopelove Re: Only 5-star ratings end up in Love Notes. True, but only if they leave a comment (I think). The seller might have sold 40 items, gotten 33 5-star ratings, but only 3 Love Notes. Sometimes I am checking in like 20+ packages and I don’t have time to write LN for all so I just give 5-stars (unless something’s wrong) and I only stop to Note ones that went the extra mile! :)
brandyzzle
@peacehopelove ^^^ That’s just my 2 cents, for people using your Love Note tip, bc lack of Love Notes might not translate to lack of 5-star ratings. But good thing to pay attention to, nonetheless!

I been on here 9 months. My friend who I met on here earn me about emails. If people want you to reach them on their email. It's usually a Scam. I just write sorry I don't do emails.
sherryrose48
Another wish I can not stand people ripping people off!! I try to earn everyone I can. People sell stuff from that China site wish.com.
sherryrose48
I was a victim myself. Thank God not much. There was a woman on here selling a set of jewelry earrings necklace ring set for $60. It was pretty. She had a lot of likes on it too.. I saw the same set on wish. Com for $2. Yep. I even text the people who likes it and told them. I told her off. Her whole list was on wish.com!
sherryrose48
Terrible! So if you really like something look it up on wish to make sure. Tons of people are doing this. Some ok reasonable making a few xtra not charging much but be careful be aware
sherryrose48
It's on all sites. Saw one guy on eBay I was zoo disgusted with. Had jewelry on auction from wish. You can get $1. One was a beautiful Morganite ring.. 3000 bids. The same pic and background on wish for $1. I said you must be making a ton of Money ripping people off with jewelry from wish.com. he admitted to it. He didn't care. I tried to earn people. I have warning up on ebay. I even text the people from eBay about it. His whole list was jewelry from wish.com. smh
sherryrose48
People are thinking they are getting a great aquamarine ring or Morganite and they are getting junk for $1 or $2 dollars. They look beautiful top. So be very careful. Hope this helps! Happy Poshing!🙂

@beegibbs I totally agree with your tip, as just within a week I had 7 sales only 1 that was accepted, that is 6 out of 7 love notes NOT received, so that would be judging me for what? Because buyers are reselling the items mostly and not wanting on their page, not understanding that you can also hide your love notes that you give and I do use this option often, especially if buying to resell wholesale items.
special_stuff
@peacehopelove Hi Amy! Great ideas you have!!!
I am also a seller who also buys. I am also disabled (2 strokes, a brain tumor that is inoperable, & post concussion syndrome.) 😫 As you can imagine, I have a lot of doctor appointments, tests, therapy. I could go on and on.
I have some good & interesting items. I am not a fast shipper- (I am a half assed shipper....joke, LOL. My post office has been helpful, but even they are pretty slow.
special_stuff
I often can not find items that have been sold, they are somewhere in the house, but not where I originally put them. It is hard for me to keep up with all of the comments, requests for measurements, and someone buying something!
special_stuff
I once had a lovely buyer who requested that I hold her purchase until her house was finished being remodeled. It took 21 days!! So, I will never be a Posh Ambassador, but I gave a customer what they wanted!! So, do you think that I need to post my health information in my closet? I have posted deaths in my family and a vacation! I would love to get some feedback!
peacehopelove
@special_stuff It's only my opinion, but I would post someplace prominently in my closet that I have health issues and my shipping could take up to a couple of weeks. Sorry for all you are going through. As far as all the other personal stuff, that's up to you, but I would caution you to keep it in your own closet and not fill up other peoples' closets with personal information. Some people don't like it. Take care.
dahliadressed
@beegibbs I agree! As a seller, I have to respectfully disagree with this “tip”. I have often gone above and beyond to lovingly package items, include thoughtful notes (not just generic) and small tokens of my appreciation, and received 5 stars but no love note. It’s ok, ppl are busy and I don’t hold that against a buyer. I would hope buyers return the courtesy and not hold a lack of love notes against me! If they do, they miss out on a very conscientious, customer-focused seller 🤷♀️
dahliadressed
@angiebrooke same here! I disagree with judging sellers on # of love notes. 5 stars is 5 stars, along with distinctions like “fast-shipper”, “top-seller” “posh ambassador” etc, which are reliable metrics for assessing a seller’s performance. Ppl are busy ( myself included). A lack of “love notes” 🙄 is not good data. Buyer-driven and voluntary, “love notes” reflect a buyer’s mood/time/inclination/etc more than seller’s performance.
peacehopelove
@angiebrooke THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR INSIGHTS!
dahliadressed
@angiebrooke thank you! I’m going to check put yours now too 😊

How do you know if the buyer paid you? and how to ship it to them .. i have a bad case of trust issues i just want to make sure people pay for the product.
peacehopelove
@kayleykk2 if they don't pay for it then Poshmark won't send you a shipping label. Then after they accept it you'll get paid by Poshmark and if they don't accept it it would automatically go to you after a few days.
peacehopelove
@kayleykk2 you can read the guide to Poshmark and will give you a little bit more understanding on how it works technically speaking

@kayleykk2 by the way if you're selling something valuable then I would take pictures of you wrapping it up and take pictures of it before you put it in the Box just so somebody can't lie about it or say it looked different than it really did. I've never done that because the things I sell are not high end. Then I would get a receipt at the post office.

Thank you for this listing. I think it is really fair to buyers and sellers. One thing I would want to say is that I have had alot of new buyers. I often go to their closets and will see if they have purchased items and left love notes. New buyers appear unaware that they need to rate the seller, and if they want leave a love note. I have contacted a few, but now I let it go. I dont want to pester people.

@faithbabs that really upsets me. I've noticed it with simple brands, not just the high end.
allthings_fab
@rjrkbythebay so true, I have missed many messages from people because of the message not being properly addressed to the seller and the only way that I saw the message was because I was editing my listing and scrolling through my closet so it's not that we are ignoring a customer or potential customer it's because we didn't see it.

@peacehopelove 💗💕 AS OF NOW, A SOMEWHAT SEASONED BUYER, THERE IS TRULY ONE (1) PIECE OF ADVICE TO SELLERS: NO MATTER WHAT...SEND SOME TYPE OF “Thank You” MESSAGE WITH EVERY ORDER!🌹 AS BUYERS, THAT MAKES US HAPPY THAT WE SPENT MONEY IN YOUR CLOSET & ESPECIALLY WITH YOU AS POSH FRIENDS!!🌹
peacehopelove
@ginger_spicer Thank you! I agree totally!!

@brandyzzle I appreciate your reasoning for not leaving love notes. I got to a slow start but am now ten times better then when I started. At first shipping was harder because of where I lived, transportation ect...however, learning I can ask USPS To pick items up and even better I'm there to watch them being scanned.
lavash_designs
@brandyzzle That was my only issue. I have been on game lately and 3% away from AMBASSADOR! I just got my first HP item too! However, I wasn't sure if I did anything wrong to the buyer or the item wasn't good because, as a buyer myself I always leave love notes but, Sometimes I don't get any. so, thank you for this comment because I was starting to think People did not like what I sent 😱🤪😱😃😃

A couple questions I would like to know about.Sorry if this is a longer comment 🙏🙏I So, as a seller I always since about 3 months inyo this, I make sure I ship same day est std time if orders in by 2pm if not, it's listed next day with my listings and I always send notes and do my best to package right!
lavash_designs
I get the buyers package out (although, I recycle the paper I get from the sellers which, I think we all do??)) Anywho, I don't understand from when I drop the package off to when it gets the tracking comes online, it seems like it takes forever to start tracking. This effected one sale pretty bad around Christmas but, he gave me 5 stars because the buyer (thankfully) realized, I did my part
lavash_designs
but, Poshmark/USPS did not get the tracking to the buyers so, it seemed like I sent three days after I actually did😱...does anyone have this issue? I am not sure If that effects my shipping score but it's out if my control. It does say sometimes it takes up to 48 hrs for tracking to show up but, in the end The buyer is what matters and how they feel is so essential to sellers.

Question 2: offers when someone likes items. I'm still not sure how to go about offering or if I'm just annoying them to death. Maybe someone can shed some light on this question...I definitely ask questions (no question is a dumb question is my motto) when I started I did not know one thing and now people ask me questions it's a great feeling. all these comments are awesome and I found some answers I needed for sure Thank you for posting this!!

@ashleyfenimore5 Making an offer to likers can never hurt. use the USPS website to order pick up. The mail person scans it as soon as they pick it up. It's free to use this service.
peacehopelove
@ashleyfenimore5 Mail your items the same or next day to get best ratings

@rjrkbythebay I am a new buyer and a new seller. I wish it would send me an email! I have missed a few questions!
trendgirl1
@georgousgals I made this mistake the first week I was on Poshmark. Now I understand what the different terms are.
rjrkbythebay
@trendgirl1 Do you have your notifications turned on? That’s how I know. Also, in the news tab, there is a “comments” section. You can check that tab each day to make sure you didn’t miss any.
trendgirl1
@rjrkbythebay no I did not! Thank you for your help!
rjrkbythebay
@trendgirl1 you’re welcome!

I buy & I'm an ambassador seller: about love notes, most new buyers don't know how important we make this here on posh. Other platform don't care even close to how much we do. Since I started selling, every time I get something I bought, I leave a love note. If I feel the seller didn't rep the item well, 5 stars but no note so I agree with @mogibeth u can tell a lot about a seller by checking love notes.
erica_erikitty
One more tip: buyers, please accept your packages we send you. I don't think new buyers are aware of the fact that we wait 4 days to be paid for something u have been able to use all that time which isn't fair. So please accept ur packages. Just log in (on the app it's the bottom right corner where it says ur name) then go to purchases. Thanks everyone! And @mogibeth I plan on sharing this to my people. Hope that's ok! ❤️

@peacehopelove sorry, wrong name! Please see above 2 notes 🤗🤗

@ginger_spicer Love your comments! I am a buyer but hopefully a seller. Sooo much to learn. What is the best way to learn? Utube for Posh selling???!!!
Member for two years but just started back here the last few days.
Good luck, I know I will need it. Maybe there is a book..."Posh selling for dummies ". I would buy it! :)
carolyngullver
@rjrkbythebay Thanks. I sent a note to seller but I did not do as you said She did not get back to me. Just D/C from hospital and bought a pair of shoes in the wrong size. Note to self: DO NOT SHOP with anesthesia and pain meds still on board! I asked if she could cancel the order but she did not get back to me yesterday. They have not been shipped..
Can you return an item?
Thanks for listening!
rjrkbythebay
@carolyngullver I hope the seller responds and cancels the order, but if not you can easily RE-posh the item of it doesn’t fit.

This is such a great thread, thank you . I think pictures should be as neat as can be. If you are using pictures of your item from the internet, make sure you also have pictures of the actual item. As a seller I try to answer within 24 hours , usually I answer right away, Always be cordial with your buyers , without them you have nothing. Also I think ship same or next day. Also, a thank you note included with your shipment is always a nice touch. I always add a hand written thank you note.

Hi all. Im not new to Posh but new to selling. I want to share I had great reviews n love notes, then encountered a posher pa2 (very childish, who has hx of doing this) she loved my shop, bought many of my items, then if for any reason she got upset, she took back her comments, love notes n ratings in order to hurt me, my shop & my livliood. Has hx of reporting other friends. So my point is you cannot believe it unless many *diff ppl gave a certain posher bad reviews.
pandorakitty
@peacehopelove amen. I agree. I encountered someone who got upset when ppl send msgs thru posh app messages to likers & msgs to shoppers. They were also a person who obviously did not use the app. (It was same Pa2)

@peacehopelove thx 4 ur wonderful tips! I live in a rural area w/small PO not convenient/timely to get to. I'm also newly disabled (past 3 yrs) so I'm curious does anyone have tips/suggestions shipping 1-2 days? I try to communicate w/my buyers re:shipping; Ive averaged 3 days. I don't have regular sales but I am familiar usps scheduled porch pick ups. Just curious if everyone is living at the PO or am I missing something??? Blessings 🫶🙏🫶
