I’ve noticed people or either just signed up this year and don’t have any close in their closet but have tons of followers and follow tons of people. I find that really strange. Their shipping label is generation through them so they track everything’. I am just concerned that I will keep getting people who just opened up an account last year with nothing on their closet. How do they get people to follow them with no close? That’s what’s suspicious to me, but I will keep a track as a move a long.

cassafrass9 @nerdycomicbooks If they're purchasing through poshmark, why are you canceling the sales? Just wait until the next day to make sure nothing has cancelled and send the items out. DON'T DO TRANSACTIONS OFF POSHMARK. If you've given them your information, just block the person and move on. If you end up with a check, shred it and throw it away.

Report fake accounts and actvities that are questionable to Poshmark, they have a great system to do so, and will address it and also refer issues to law enforcement as needed.

carmeliachoices
carmeliachoices Thank you for this warning. I was wondering if I got into a new scam by buyer or not. Recently someone purchased a jacket from me. It was supposed to be delivered today but a few hours ago when I check the USPS, it says that the item is currently “return to sender”. I sent the same exact jacket with the same condition which is excellent. Is it possible to return an item without contacting Poshmark first? I don’t what should I do.
Mar 11Reply
carmeliachoices
carmeliachoices Does anyone have the same experienced like I did? The buyer just recently create an account at Feb 2021. I’ve been in Poshmark a year and never have experienced any of this.
Mar 11Reply
alienbaby
alienbaby @carmeliarose_ sounds like issue is either w/USPS OR buyer refused @door. Package will likely get returned w/out $ clearing so i don’t think you’ll lose out on anything other than a sale. You should reach out to buyer to see if intentional (because that’s not cool!) and also to poshmark in case they can help. If this wasn’t intentional on the buyer’s part I’m sure it’s super disappointing to them as they were likely excited to get the jacket. Sounds like a fluke & likely not a scam. Good luck!
Mar 11Reply
alienbaby
alienbaby @jandmstreaming I had the same reaction! Report them every time even on other people’s posts ;)
Mar 11Reply
alienbaby
alienbaby @rparveen91 if they’re trying to do a transaction outside of Poshmark they are 100% a scammer! There’s nothing easier than this app so why try to make things more complicated.
Mar 11Reply
alienbaby
alienbaby @aubreyalcala see if you can contact poshmark. I’ve never heard of this! The payment clears in the app after the buyer receives the item within 3 days of delivery or if the buyer marks it as received. I’m not sure what I would do. Good luck!!
Mar 11Reply
alienbaby
alienbaby @tycorin they do this at such high volume I don’t think they will have any retaliatory practices. They probably expect that a certain % of people will catch on to the scam and not participate or stop replying. The scam is not to receive your item, it’s to get you to send them money. They send a check for more than the amount along with a sob story about how they need you to send them the surplus. So just don’t reply and block their email.
Mar 11Reply
tycorin
tycorin @alienbaby yeah I ended up not going through with it. I talked to my friend that’s a banker & she said it was fraud. They send u a fraudulent check over the amounts discussed & then get u send them the rest of the money. She said the bank will clear the check when you’re in good standing with them, but when they find out the check isn’t real, you’ll be negative in your account, & now owe the amount you sent them. So you never get paid, you end up owing the money, & you lose what you’re selling
Mar 11Reply
tycorin
tycorin @alienbaby all around it’s no good! I told them if they could pay me another way, I’d do it, otherwise, I pass. They never responded.

haydenhaven
haydenhaven Fake accounts are spam, harassment, and FRAUD. Report these to Poshmark -The VPN might hide IP address of person/s for a bit, but legally any VPN provider is required by law to turn over their records thus revealing who the person/s that create false accounts as they're committing fraud, which is a Federal Crime -Your State AG may also prosecute fraud/impersonation of an indivudual or creation of a fraudulet account. Let that sink in. Many Federal Crimal Statutes apply for prosecution.
Mar 22Reply
haydenhaven
haydenhaven @fatimaparacha Notify Poshmark via email, they have an email that is dedicated to LEGAL issues and you certainly have that with your fake buyer, and fake account, they will advise, in addition, you can contact your State Attorney General and speak with an Asst AG who will be helpful, the local police report is also something that should be done as documentation ASAP, they may only take a report but it is the start of your paper trail on the FRAUD. There are FEDERAL STATUTES that also apply.

fedinaj
fedinaj I am probably too late to comment but from what I heard: this scam is not to get your personal info but to make you pay a third party from your own pocket. They send you a bogus check with the amount much higher than the cost of your item, claim it was by mistake please send difference to so and so and keep more $ for yourself as a reward. What I don’t understand why someone would do it before even cashing the check?
Apr 24Reply
fedinaj
fedinaj @peggym0911 I might be too late to comment ( I saw your post about scam) but from what I heard luckily they are not after your information so just don’t accept the check and block. They are trying to scam you out of your money: check will be for much higher amount ( bogus of course) and they intend to ask you to send the difference to a third party most likely out of your own funds before you get to cash that check which will bounce or something. So don’t worry just don’t accept it
Apr 25Reply
peggym0911
peggym0911 @fedinaj thanks for responding! I thought she just wanted some more info at first and I was completely caught by surprise (it was my first week on here and I wasn’t privy to these types). I started searching online for similar scams. But ya they’ll send a check for an absurd amount and when ur bank clears it after a few days you end up sending them money before a problem is actually detected so it all ends up falling on u in the end!
Apr 25Reply
peggym0911
peggym0911 @urbaing it sounds like the scammers MO... supposedly they send the check and ask u to pay the “mover” or “shipper” but there is something wrong with the check and your bank probably cleared it before realizing. I would be very careful, maybe contact your bank and/or authorities of some sort. This may end up screwing u and that would be a real shame. I can’t believe these people do this when we’re trying to be helpful!

jbelim @peggym0911 Hi, I recently sold an Hermès bag in Poshmark. I’ve been a seller for almost 3 years and I’m always buying from poshmark. Last year I purchased my Garden party bag for over 500, it was authenticated by Poshmark. . Decided to list it because I really didn’t use it. The buyer accepted the purchase yesterday, gave me 5 stars. Today she edited rating given me a rating of 2. Stating the bag was fake, ( Authenticated by Poshmark over 500) me a scammer. Posted I’m a scammer
Apr 25Reply
jbelim
jbelim What should I do? I’ve never been so offended. Poshmark authenticated it prior to my purchase which is over 500.00 last year. She accepted it after 2 days and then today my rating went from 5 to 2. Posting I’m a scammer. I’m not happy about that comment. I know it’s 100% authenticated by Poshmark. If she felt that way. Why did she accept the item?

hauteresale
hauteresale @alaynamarie416 Happened to me almost first day I started selling. Fake check and everything. I reported them to PM. PM didn’t seem to concerned. Never deal with anyone off the PM site or app. I get at least 3-6 fake PM “Sellers” a day trying to sell fake goods. I Report them and block them. Look for Seller handles that are a bunch of gibberish letters or one luxury item for sale that is either too cheap or they want you to contact them directly.

laughingwittch
laughingwittch I'm new to selling on poshmark so I didn't know about scams yet. I was emailing with this person and I had already sent her/them my address and they had said they were going to send a check. I then had a thought to check on google about poshmark scams and that led me here to this posting. I then emailed them back telling them I'm backing out and if they still want the item they can buy it thru poshmark. Did anyone else get asked to delete their posting?

denizel When you accept their offer you are selling outside of the poshmark app ! You are giving personal info to complete strangers who want to pay more than twice what your asking . DONT SELL OUTSIDE THE APP !! Also tap on there proffime you will see they have min followers almost nothing else will be on it . Protect yourself by staying loyal to the app .

heat818check Idk how old this is but if we all follow rules and guidelines that Poshmark put in place to help try to cut the scams down then it shouldn’t be a problem . If someone wants your item then they can buy it with a click of a button . If you are a seller that wants to cut corners then just be prepared to lose money !!!

Also I'm curious why they make fake accounts and sell items they don't even have. Doesn't PM release their money only if we accept the order?

One buyer bought a bundle of 2 items and then made an offer on another item. They commented asking if I could ship it with the other things they had previously purchased. When I said no because it would have its own tracking number, they made an offer on 6 other items.

There are fake accounts buying stuff that's super cheap then leaving feedback unrelated to the item purchased. sell an atomizer and they comment about the look of the fabric. what fabric? you mean the plastic bottle. probably going to request a refund then I'm out the bottle and the money. Have a conversation with every buyer if you can at this point.

stewy926 Had a very uncomfortable situation happen with a buyer and wanted to share. Yesterday my item arrived to the buyer and around 6pm I received a phone call from a NY #. It was the buyer who told me she got my number from googling me which is extremely creepy. She was asking about other listings I had and was trying to send me a check. I told her all communication needed to happen through the Poshmark app. Continued…
Aug 24Reply
stewy926
stewy926 She then called me an additional 6 times leaving voicemails stating she couldn’t log into the app and to call her back. I reported the user but would strongly encourage anyone who has their name on the shipping info to edit it so you can’t be googled. I’m now waiting on a response from PM and for the funds to be released. All in all a very unsettling experience.

I became suspicious and I sent an inquiry to Poshmark through the “problem/inquiry” section of the item that was sold. I hope to know for sure the buyer is legit before I mail the order. Not sure if I will actually receive a response from Poshmark since I read that sometimes they don’t respond. It has only been 19 hours since I sent my inquiry. What do u think

awifelife
awifelife @royalevian26 I just had a butter do the same thing. The only thing I’m thinking is that they try to get your information off the shipping label. Or try to return saying your item was bad, just take photos of what you’re packing while packing, and hopefully you use a p o box that is different from your own personal billing address.

samnottke
samnottke @tycorin Don't do it. I was scammed once, while applying for a position. They sent me a check to buy some equipments for the job. The check appeared to have cleared. Then they asked me to zelle the money to the "vendor," which made me realize it's a scam. As soon as I confronted them the supposed cleared check disappeared from my account.

skiesareblue
skiesareblue know this thread is pretty old but please do not cash any sort of check you receive. It’ll be fraudulent and then YOU will have to pay for the amount of the check. There are $Zelle and venm0 scams now too. Stay safe out there. Keep all transactions on Poshmark. I just received a scam email from @jmccain_2006 so this scam is alive and well unfortunately!

fedinaj
fedinaj @shawnadarlene1 don't worry they don't need your address. What they do is asking you to hold the item and promise twice more, they sent you some check with much bigger amount ( let's say your price is 70 they promise you 120 but check is for 1200, they claim it's a mistake and asking to cash it, keep whatever you were promised ship item and the change. So ppl do that and 3 days later check bounces and you are in negative.
Jan 12Reply
fedinaj
fedinaj So if you didn't cash anything you are ok. Burn it block them and never answer to anything like that. I read a lot about it because was curious what's the catch
Jan 12Reply
shawnadarlene1
shawnadarlene1 @fedinaj thank you so much for replying! I am paranoid anyways and after I had gave them my name and address I had realized when they said they was sending a check for 1200 not to worry I knew it was a scam and I pretty much told them forget about it and ended up receiving the check a week later. Didn’t cash it I ripped it up but was still scared over like all the stuff that goes on in the world. Didn’t know if they was trying to hunt me down lol

juniper463
juniper463 @emmsantry no just shred the check and block and delete their contacts from your phone AND REPORT THEIR ACCOUNTS some of these scammers are actually quite smart and disguise themselves quite well so it doesn’t seem like a scam (trust me I’m really good at spotting scammers but this person fooled me)
