erinbickley This is great! I love seeing advocacy out there for invisible illnesses. I am a psychotherapist and I sit with clients with mental illness every day. I *also* am a person living w/ a diagnosed mental illness (Type II Bipolar). I've been shamed, accused, and disregarded when I experience depressive episodes...comments like "that's just an excuse" or "get over it", or "pick yourself up by the boot straps!"

It hurts so bad but I keep trying to still have a relationship despite her ignorance. Most people will not understand unless they've actually gone through some form of anything chronic. goensshopping @gunner1215 I can only give credit to God because He's the one that put this on my heart to just have a support system for others and just know to not give up and help others through your struggles. It's helped me a lot not to focus so much on me and my circumstances but to talk and encourage others. We don't hv people who understand what we go through daily, I just wanted to make a place to where you're reassured you're not alone and I get it.

I just wanted to make it easier for us who struggle and for information to those that don't understand that every single day, minute by minute is a struggle. By the grace of God He helps me get through it. Idk where I'd be without my faith. He is my strength and He's yours as well if you let Him. Keep in touch and I'll be praying for you.

goensshopping @erinbickley Omygoodness I've heard that do many times I just withdrew from people that continue to say the same old rhetoric. I actually need to see a psychiatrist but it's been put off on my list of things I have to do because something new pops up. Right now its uterine issues. Waiting for insurance approval for biopsy and a procedure. I have Hashimotos as well and struggle with depression and anxiety everyday. I get it. I'd rather be treated by someone like yourself. Cont

goensshopping @lifebydesign Yes I know the feeling. Thank you for sharing your story. I actually just woke up an hour ago. Was awake 2 days then slept for 16 hours getting up and down to use the bathroom. Seems like having to urinate at night is more frequent. Sorry if that's tmi lol. But it bugs and waking up so much from a deep sleep isn't feeling well rested in the afternoon lol 😂 usually that's when I do wake up. You keep Poshing on. I'll b there with u too. ❤️💖❤️

goensshopping @colesgrammy53 Oh no, I'm so sorry and you're very welcome. Thank you for sharing your story. I have Hashimotos Disease an autoimmune disease of my thyroid incurable. Comes with chronic fatigue 😴 anxiety, depression, hair loss. Also dealing with uterine issues that I'm waiting for insurance to approve a biopsy and procedure. kel1angel I'm so sorry to hear that you're dealing with chronic illness. I know how hard it can be physically, emotionally, mentally, financially and socially. I hope you have a good support system and wish you luck educating others about chronic illness. In my opinion, interacting with people who don't understand or believe my illnesses (pain, dizziness, memory loss, confusion, etc.) make everything ten times harder. goensshopping @kel1angel I've gotten used to my "best" friends not attempting to make an effort just to visit. I got over that somewhat and I still try and keep some sort of relationship with them. My Mom is the most difficult and I still try with her. She's trying to make an effort I can see, she took me to my last Drs appt that I needed to see a specialist. So it's progress, but she was scolding me and getting irritated with the fact I had to take meds. That's what she thinks is wrong my use of meds

Also on the days I do my makeup, I post pics on instagrahm bc I'm so happy to look healthy and that I was able to do it that day. I love doing makeup. So yeah with what I use, yes I don't look sick 😷. If you see me on an everyday look with no makeup and not bathed in a few days, you'd be saying wth?'

kel1angel @goensshopping I'm so sorry you're having to deal with that. I do understand. When many of my health problems started about 16 years ago, I lost most of my friends. I could have kept them as acquaintances but decided to let them go. It was a very difficult time for me. Now, I have less friends, but they are true friends. They either have their own health problems and understand or they really try to get it.

kel1angel @goensshopping I prefer it this way. I'd rather have less friends and have close relationships. I'm sorry your mom is struggling to understand. Maybe next time you see your doctor, ask if you could make an additional appointment where he or she could explain your illness to your mom? Maybe coming from the dr, your mom will be able better understand? I understand not wanting to sever that relationship and hope things work out so that she's able to see where you're coming from.

goensshopping @kel1angel Yes you're right and that's what I've done regarding friends. My best friend is my husband and I have amazing children. So they're my support system. My regular dr is confused about my illness. It's a long story but I was referred to a psychiatrist by my dr, went and they thought I had chronic depression and put me on all different kinds of anti depressants that didn't work. Finally the psychiatrist referred me to an endocrinologist who then diagnosed me with Hashimotos Disease.

Years go by and my dr referred me to another Endo who suggested I see a psychiatrist. 😩 Going in circles and not getting treated right. I'm at a loss now. jenposh24 Good luck, I Kinda have had thyroid issues myself but no diagnosis! I have been getting more exercise and eating better, and it's helping me, all my tests are back in normal range, but I still watch, because my grandmother had part of her thyroid removed with a tumor on it. So I totally know it's a real problem that pops up and is chronic! The struggles are hard and real! I feel for ya girl!

I've been dealing with the daily pain yo-yo for over 5 years now as a result of being rear-ended while stopped in traffic on the freeway. Both the car and I were totaled! The frame was actually bent on the rear passenger side where she hit so hard (she was going between 30-35mph when she hit us.) sending good vibes and prayers for a day better than the one before it! 💗

goensshopping @dbush3662 About my thyroid that’s still messed up but I recently in March went to a new Endo and he saw my levels my t3 is high but t4 is normal. He suggested I see a psychiatrist which is where I started years ago and he’s the one that finally told me to see an Endo, that’s when I was diagnosed. But that Endo wasn’t good, he just had way to many people and the wait was always at least an hour after my appt time. So I just stopped going. It’s too much. Full circle ugh smh.

I did loose a lot of it after but I was staying at 145, the lowest 135. I went from everyone accusing me of being anorexic to asking me if I am addicted to food and telling me I should exercise. Since we don't look sick it is hard to get people to understand

I have Degenitive Disc Disease and have had 4 neck surgeries. Cervical discs 3 thru 7 is fused together with a titanium rod and plates and screws. I go to a pain management doctor and also a neurologist for migraines.

shopnwithstacy The pain meds only help so much and my pain doctor also performs these surgeries on me called Radio Frequency where he burns the nerves in my neck to relieve some of my pain. I just stayed quiet because he's the one in control of my Xanax and I get panic attacks when my pain gets out of control so I can't be mean to him or say anything out of line

I’ve honestly been thinking if I should just get the whole thing removed because I’ve heard people who’ve actually done a lot better without it, then my body would stop attacking it. Thursday I had a regular Drs appt with my primary and she literally made me cry. She accused me of bullying her which I was dumbfounded at the accusation, I’m literally the most non confrontational person you’ll come across unless I’ve let things go for awhile, like a long while then I tip toe around the issues which I did with her. She’s been my Dr for over 10 years cont.....

It’s a joke. It’s discouraging and I’m at a place right now that’s not good. I’m just overwhelmed with everything. Usually I can take it but since this extra uterine issue, bleeding non stop for 4 months, I’m at a new low. Got an IUD implanted a cpl weeks ago n biopsy. Supposed to help with the bleeding. NOT!

But now like I said, this has been tiring. Not the people or anything just the work you HAVE to put in to get results. I’m so out of gas. Everything is a darn struggle. Plus I’m going through emotional issues trying to deal with all of this overwhelming stuff coming at me one after the other. My grandma has Alzheimer’s, it’s breaking my heart.

kmpenguin Thanks so much for sharing this and your story. Its never easy to tell strangers about an illness. I applaud you for your outlook. It IS very hard to not feel guilty. I had a massive stroke when I was 29, just 4 weeks after my 3rd child was born. I was in the hospital for nearly 5 months and then inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation for 2 years trying to learn how to walk,speak,learn,virtually everything all over. I we paralyzed on the right side.

goensshopping @kmpenguin I’m struggling with big decisions and it’s frustrating that these Drs are so clueless as to what’s going on with me. Im currently struggling now along with my thyroid disease with uterine bleeding. Long story but what they attempted to do wasn’t the issue and I’m still massively bleeding despite an IUD. I found out the cause just recently was my Prozac which I haven’t told the Drs yet. Idk how they didn’t realize that’s what it was but I need it mentally.

goensshopping @kmpenguin I hv an appt with my gyno Wednesday so I’m bringing it up to see what now can be done. I had went off it cold turkey along with my pain killers both for 2 different reasons. Prozac was a test to see if that’s why and I did stop slowly after but the depression was unbearable. I’m at a loss here. Hopefully I’ll get help soon. Real help and you as well

I sometimes don’t even seem to be able to muster a smile but I still try. Stay strong sweetie. Prayerfully things will b looking up. Saw Dr yesterday. Got on new anti depressant. She said it’s a good one not known for bleeding as a side effect. I’m praying so and that it works 🙏🏻💖

bell1971 I also suffer from chronic pain. A condition called CRPS Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome. It’s a horrible suffering condition. My husband just had major shoulder surgery and it’s a challenge taking care of him And my 11 yr Daughter. I’m having a rough time mentally and physically !!!! He has no income for at least 6 months. He is fighting WC. THE STRESS IS AWFUL. My Disability is all we have. Not going to be much of a Christmas. But INVISIBLE ILLNESS is tough. No one understands !!!

Right now I’m dealing with horrible headaches on and off, uterine issues amongst other things. Got off my pain medication I was on for over 10 years and it’s been a month opiate Free. dmarie380 Don't know where to start on this but I have fibromyalgia,COPD, a severe anxiety disorder that causes panic attacks and depression along with some back issues that I get injections every 3 months and and to top that off we just found out that my daughter is anemic and they diagnosed with lupus a couple weeks ago she has been taking out school because her immune system is very weak

Latest is sinus infection, my headaches are the worst, allergic to the antibiotics they gave me, needed new ones, started bleeding again, having trouble with this pharmacy “not my home one” but this mail order one I’m forced to use getting this much needed progesterone to stop the bleeding, and so on. I’m thankful for everyone sharing like yourself because not only does it inform others but also things a lot of us our struggling with to see maybe to get that test or this test. michelleuhl Thanks for this! I’m sorry if your struggles. Having an invisible illness sucks. I have CRPS, a disorder of the sympathetic nervous system, for which there is no cure. It rates highest on the pain scale: higher than cancer and childbirth and amputation without anesthesia. It’s awful😢. Some refer to it as the suicide disease.

bell1971 @michelleuhl 😞😞😞. My God it sure is. I had a spinal cord stimulator put in my back sand it caused my upper back terrible pain. I’ve 50 injections in my upper back. 2 sets of 25. I go monthly for Lidocaine infusions. They did a review on my Disability. I just got a letter last Thursday that says I am able to return to work !!! How can that be. My whole body is on fire 🔥 I did appeal it. But I’m so depressed !!!

michelleuhl @goensshopping I love near ATL and am lucky to have a hospital that does Ketamine infusions. They help tremendously. I had 6 over two months and reduced my pain a lot, but now it’s back to it’s horrible levels and am facing carpal tunnel surgery next week. Yay. Lol.

goensshopping @bell1971 😰 I’m so sorry. I shared some of your closet. I honestly am going to be real, I’m a Christian but when my pain gets so bad, I drink beer. I don’t like the taste but I’ve given up my pain killers bc they no longer worked. Unfortunately beer does help for me. I get desperate and it’s the only way I can do a lot of the activity I hv to do. Praying for you 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻💖💖💖

goensshopping @michelleuhl yes I did play your FG already 😘. Hopefully u can get some relief soon. I need a hysterectomy. I’m practically bleeding to death, feeling that way. Non stop almost a year now. Tried different procedures that didn’t work, my headaches are excruciating. My iron levels are always low with the combined Hashimotos and uterine bleeding. I had an iud put in a few months back, it fell out 😂 I hv to laugh or I’ll cry 😢

michelleuhl @goensshopping That is horrible. I honestly didn’t know that about hashimotos. I’m actually a nurse, but haven’t been able to work in five years. I had a hysterectomy about four years ago due to fibroids. I think because of my medical background I knew what I wanted and was able to work the system. Sounds terrible, I know. I told the doctor my end goal and tried two alternate therapies before surgery.

goensshopping @michelleuhl Yes I understand that there’s a lot you don’t know. The medical community seems to not know how to treat it correctly. They know the symptoms and issues that come with it but try all sorts of bandaids to make it bearable. Most Hashimotos sufferers turn to books and ND’s to help. I have my book, I just can’t seem to read it. I hate thinking about it. I’ll go insane sometimes if I focus on it too much. I will pick it up when I’m ready. But yes look up symptoms. It’s bad 😰

michelleuhl @goensshopping I remember learning about it in nursing school, but I spent my career in critical care. Hashimotos didn’t come up in the transplant unit I worked in. I was last exposed to it when a good friends niece was hospitalized last year with debilitating symptoms. I will definitely read up on it. And include you in my prayers❤️

goensshopping @michelleuhl They honestly were in disbelief when I told them. They were wow that’s strange, never heard of that happening like that. I knew something was wrong. I could feel something and had pain, then it ended up in my V canal, my hubs actually pulled it out. Now that’s love lol. It was to where he could reach it, not in my uterus where it should be, I think I’m bleeding so bad it had nothing to hold on Too in there. I’m still waiting for my referral to b approved 🤯 It’s a looong process 😤

andreat12 I went off to college all the way to Colorado (I am from New England) and partied excessively, which I think is normal... but I couldn't stop and my friends couldn't keep up. I remember sneaking onto party buses as a way of transportation and everyone getting really angry at me and I wouldn't care. I started doing really bad things... one example- I threw my roommate's laptop against the mini fridge until it was completely shattered just because she turned my fan off.... CONT

andreat12 I'm unemployed, living with my mom, and 25 years old. I feel like such a failure... but then I remember I am sick and get more mad. Getting up from bed is literally impossible... I hate my medications... and I never go out with friends.... I don't think I have any anymore..Since I have no income, I try to use this platform and others to try to make money but it hasn't really worked out... SOOO thats where I am at right now

morbidkat I was in a bad wreck..I have a lot of problems now. I can't even discuss. But my most recent one, is I accidentally joined two share games on pm. One, I did not sign into. I only signed up for. The little girl must still be in highschool because she started harassing me over it, then blocked me. Now she has someone else harassing me. My memory is bad and I have enough problems. I've reported them for harassment.

I’ve been super harassed for by so many people bc they just want to b mean. Big time on my makeup listings the most. So I understand what you’re going through. Try to stick with a good small group of women and don’t give up. There’s a lot of good ones here as well. Unfortunately there’s a few bad apples
