nystarlight1 @kamchotka hi!! I have a psych question for ya- is there a way for me to learn how to do assessments- there are a few job opportunities that have popped up but I’ve only done the SSKAAT-R for sexual consent.

kamchotka @nystarlight1 Hi, yes of course! Are you post-doc status or already licensed within your state?

nystarlight1 @kamchotka well.. that’s the tricky thing. I have a masters in developmental psych (not clinical), and a doctorate in health education. A couple of places have stated that they have a licensed person who could sign off on my assessments, but I don’t have any experience with them.

kamchotka @nystarlight1 Hmmm, so that's tricky since assessments are strictly controlled by the APA for PhD's and PsyDs in psychology or clinical psychology only 😖 the licensing board wants to make sure that trained clinicians (still getting education and supervision) are the only ones implementing assessments due to managing risk.

kamchotka @nystarlight1 Sorry dear; wasn't sure what your PhD was in 💕

nystarlight1 @kamchotka that definitely makes sense... I guess I’ll see what happens. My friend who switched agencies told her new agency about me and they requested my CV— but when I saw it was an article 16 fee for service assessment position, I wasn’t sure what would come of it.

kamchotka @nystarlight1 Some masters students can get a little training, but it would take place in your doctoral program or during your pre-doc or post-doc hours at a formal practicum site.

nystarlight1 @kamchotka no need to apologize at all. Maybe I need another degree 🤣

kamchotka @nystarlight1 The only issue with fee for service is that you would be a contractor and your supervisor wouldn't be on the hook for any issues; you'd be on your own. You're more likely to get sued since you're not protected through a school's malpractice insurance. It's a way for agencies to save themselves a ton of money.

nystarlight1 @kamchotka wow! That is really really helpful information! Thank you for sharing that!

kamchotka @nystarlight1 One of my students is doing fee for service, but she purchased her own malpractice insurance for the agency and has insurance through her school for practicum training, so she's covered. I know it's hard for her to pay all her own taxes though. I think it's 25% she has to save for the end of the year.

nystarlight1 @kamchotka you are just a wealth of information! 💗

kamchotka @nystarlight1 You got it! I supervise the training and would be really upset if you got screwed. I would ask your friend why they don't have a psychologist to do the assessments...because they legally have to*, and if they refuse to get one, they're exposing other wonderful people to serious risk just to save $$$.

nystarlight1 @kamchotka very good point! She sent my CV to HR- we’ll see what they come back with- perhaps they’ll be able to utilize my skills in another capacity :)

kamchotka @nystarlight1 That would be awesome and I'm sure they can! Health and wellness is SO important! Self-care too.👍

nystarlight1 @kamchotka 💗💗💗💗kinda wishing i went further with the psych- looks like there’s way more opportunities out there, and are certainly a bit more lucrative than what’s open to me.
