It's a hook to add the longer shoulder strap. The inside is open with compartments on each side.

I have a few questions if you don’t mind answering them for me. I recently came upon a Coach purse identical to this in a light yellow. It feels unusually light for a Coach bag. Is yours unudually light? Does your bag have a tiny white tag on any inside pocket? I’m trying to authenticate my bag. It looks real as far as quality but it’s so light, it’s making me think it’s not real? TY 🌸 in advance.
