WHY LIKE ITEMS..THEN DECLINE ALL OFFERS!?

US$0

Size

Not for sale

Like and save for later
Can someone please explain to me what is the point of liking items but never wanting to actually buy them?? Sending multiple offers and lowering the prices yet people decline the offer? If you liked the item when it was first listed at $100 but when an offer is sent or price is lowered to $30 with a shipping discount, you dont want the item anymore?????? PLEASE SOMEONE MAKE THIS MAKE SENSE!

ergochloes I understand that people change their minds, also sometimes I just like something for the sake of liking it so I don’t waste my energy getting pissed off because someone doesn’t accept my offer, I’m easygoing 🦋

haleygall8
haleygall8 @ergochloes well for you and anyone else that does that please do not do that in my closet...im here to sell items not to just be a look book for things you just want to like for the sake of it. Sorry not what poshmark is for!

ergochloes @haleygall8 yes that’s why I’m selling on Poshmark, to make sales, and I do. I’m just understanding that people change their minds.

blue_heron13
blue_heron13 just because I buy AND sell ... I think it's a free market. People like things, fine if they dont want to buy right away.. however "likes" still help the seller. Hey - I " like" stuff sometimes just to "help" an overlooked item... and sometimes I really like/want something, but it's just not in my budget -for now... --- don't let it bother you-- why sweat the small stuff, right? :)
Oct 18Reply
haleygall8
haleygall8 @sabinetoo no one is sweating the small stuff....again it’s my closet and I rather you not do that ! Thanks!
Oct 18Reply
blue_heron13
blue_heron13 Absulutely - and of course it's your closet... and you do what you do. it was a different point of view from a buyer/seller view - I will make sure not to like anything out of your closet ( without wanting to buy) so take it easy, it's not meant as an offense. :)
Oct 18Reply
haleygall8
haleygall8 @sabinetoo well thank you I appreciate that haha and its not that Im trying to be mean... I understand people go through things and dont always have the money for what they want.. its life! But continuously making offers to people with a big discount sometimes even free shipping and they decline time after time..to me that is just pointless and might as well unlike the item! Happy Poshing though! Thanks for stopping by!

stylewarrior
stylewarrior As a posher for 6 years I can tell u I like items to book mark a closet. I like to buy more than 1 item in people’s closets to save on shipping. Sometime closetS only have 1 item that fits and I’ll come back a few weeks later and bundle. For example I liked your bomber jacket, that’s it and now I’ll wait till you upload more stuff I like so I can bundle. However, reading some messages of you saying “don’t like my items” seems rude so, bummer:( you lost a sell.

almondjoyalso
almondjoyalso To save myself the frustration, I don't send offers for likes or bundles....Either they want it, or they don't...I respond to OFFERS that are sent, and if it's a very unreasonable offer, I simply decline it and keep it moving. Folks have made a 48 piece bundle worth $400+, and offered $103, expecting me to not only accept it, but also pay the additional fees to ship it. Basically, they want to HARVEST in my closet, to resell it in theirs at a huge profit...I'm NOT the one.
Jul 21Reply
haleygall8
haleygall8 @almondjoyalso Yesss! people are so irritating with that low ball offers! I decline every single one ! Only reason I even send out offers is the mere fact im trying to get rid of everything and get a couple coins before i just donate to a womens shelter and still people dont even want cheaper prices! make nooooo sense!
Jul 21Reply
almondjoyalso
almondjoyalso @haleygall8 People 'sum-up' your closet, and once they see you sell your items at a certain price, they expect you to sell everything at those prices. I guess they think I'm desperate, and selling everything because I need the money, and it's neither. I simply want to clear out the 5 closets that I've filled with my 'shopping addiction' evidence. 😂🤣
Jul 21Reply
haleygall8
haleygall8 @almondjoyalso EXACTLY!! like i have so much stuff I want to post but this last year or so Poshmark hasnt been it!! I use to sell so much on here and now its just people liking items and never buying! Definitely not going to waste my time with pictures, descriptions etc !! Rather give it away to someone who will be happy then sell it for $1 profit and paying for your shipping hahahah
Jul 21Reply
almondjoyalso
almondjoyalso @haleygall8 Folks don't like being called out, and certain groups of PETTY women WILL make it their DAILY business to stalk your closet, once they realize you're here to sell, just like them. They feel like they own monopoly rights for listing on Poshmark. They want yours for 50-70% off, but only offer 5-10% off for 3 or more items in their closet. They want YOUR items for low, to flip in their closet at a huge profit...PERIOD.

fast_track
fast_track As annoying as this is this is the New way. this is Social media selling and liking things is supposed to help algorithms to curate your likes into lists. they use your likes as a guide to send you more products
Jul 22Reply
haleygall8
haleygall8 @fast_track ehh idk about that for solely poshmark?! people throwing random likes hasnt helped at all ... but it might for you? idk
Jul 22Reply
fast_track
fast_track @haleygall8 lol. yeah it's annoying but it's part of the gig! I use it to send offer to likers. I had some sales from that avenue. I also delete and relist and up the price if I lower it and no one buys it. Its no sweat 😅 off my back. And then you have a New listing 👍🏽
Jul 22Reply
haleygall8
haleygall8 @fast_track good idea! Never thought to relist it again! But that might bring on more likers for no reason 🤣🤣🤣
Jul 22Reply
fast_track
fast_track @haleygall8 😂. I recommend relisting by hitting the Copy button then delete emojjis from the title ( think about when you search for an item) no one uses emoji to Google then give the best title repeat title it in the first description section!

Jul 22Reply
haleygall8
haleygall8 @mrsjamesdeiter sounds like excuses to me haha like i said rather someone not like it at all .. if you are that interested in something you will remember where you saw it at no need to bookmark. And then on top of that if you are "bookmarking" something that is say $50 and the person lowers it to $10 and they still decline offer or dont purchase... what the heck is the point to book mark the damn item?!?! haha
Jul 22Reply

lorik36
lorik36 This can be a great station. I agree. By the time we take photos, take measurements, provide de options and a listing, organize our items neatly & carefully before they sell, then wrap them, package them, write a thank you note, and go the shipper, it’s a lot of work. I sense that a lot of people like an item so they can watch it & watch it until it gets to rock bottom pricing & then maybe they’ll buy it. It really cuts into making any $$ and makes it hard to stay in the black. 🙁

renna1972 Hi, idk about others , sometimes I do it cause I’m waiting for buyers to accept their purchases and my balance goes up so I can buy what I liked without it getting lost among my shares . But usually it takes not more than 3 days . Other time ( rarely ) I like but I’m not sure yet , to find it easily if I decide yes since my likes are very few .

Oct 19Reply
haleygall8
haleygall8 @bruppie no it’s not toxic energy… CLEARLY a lot of people feel this way. Poshmark isn’t an Instagram for clothes.. liking the items and never wanting to buy them helps no one! It’s understood when a person like it to save and then either sends an offer or buys it down the road… clearly a difference. And again, this is my closet so I can do as I please with how I want to be ran! Thanks!
Oct 19Reply
bruppie
bruppie @haleygall8 girl people are going to like your clothes and not buy them regardless of how mad it makes you. Personally I would delete this post because as a buyer it would deter me from buying from your closet, but as you said it is your closet and you can do with it what you will.
Oct 19Reply
haleygall8
haleygall8 @bruppie well girl, im perfectly fine with this post deterring people from my closet... I have no issues with sales its more of just an annoyance to me and obviously others that when offers are sent people will ignore or decline sales but have liked the post for months.

haleygall8 @bruppie I dont mind if people want to like stuff for later like I said .. this was for people who have liked a shirt say i posted 8 months ago at $30 .. and now I dropped it to $5 and they still arent buying it or sending an offer .. at that point they clearly dont want it and the like was for nothing.. get what Im saying? but thank you! Hope the best for you in sales as well!

pipfashion
pipfashion @haleygall8 is there a place for us to comment on why we decline? I felt bad declining an offer due to the fact that the pants would be too short and I didn’t realize that. I appreciated the price drop but just couldn’t move forward. I’m new to this so I am asking- maybe I let them know on comments?
Oct 20Reply
fashions4all
fashions4all I think Poshmark needs to add another button. Instead of "like" meaning I want to buy to Poshmark, perhaps a button that says "want" could clue us sellers into making an offer or communicating with a perspective buyer. "Like" to me means just that, I "like" that item. Nowhere does it say "want to purchase" to me. JMHO

sandiegoposhin
sandiegoposhin I am new to the website and I have liked a few articles that I personally think are cute - but I have no intention of buying them. Should I not be doing that? I read that it’s best to like and comment and share on other poshers listings…. I did however feel really bad when a private offer came through on some thing because I did decline it
Nov 16Reply
haleygall8
haleygall8 @sandiegoposhin To me there is no point to liking the item especially when you are already saying you have NO intention on buying it. If its cute.. idk think it to yourself "hey thats cute" and keep scrolling.. Liking items only notifies the seller that someone wants to buy the item..so being that alot of people are needing money or wanting to get rid of stuff it is not going to help them out sending offers to basically noone . hope that helps!

I’ve wasted countless amounts of time sending offers that get nothing in return, I know I’m guilty of window shopping from time to time on posh. lorik36
lorik36 I have just read this entire thread. It seems that the majority of sellers agree that there needs to be a new button for items a buyer really wants to buy. I agree. It’s not fair to sellers to have to keep reducing prices by 10% just because some people liked it but didn’t like it.
Nov 17Reply
lorik36
lorik36 If every offer results in a 10% reduction in price, sellers can land up making next to nothing. The only person who benefits from this is buyer; even PM loses $ in commission. I hope PM reads this and makes the requested changes! 🌸
Nov 17Reply
haleygall8
haleygall8 @lorik36 exactly!! I never go lower then listing an item at $5 or offers lower then $8! Merely cause what is the point! We all know the commission break down when you sell something that cheap ESPECIALLY with a shipping discount… basically paying the person to take it off my hands… and NOPE! I rather donate to women in need then sell something to profit $1 or less!

Right up there with starting a bundle of 1 item, or more, and then not being responsive AT ALL to a comment I make acknowledging the bundle start or offer that is sent. At least say thanks, but just looking at this time. Also, right up there with "Is this still available?" If you're looking at it and it doesn't say Sold or Not For Sale, why are you asking? When I say Yes it is, then it's Crickets. wtf.

poshelot @stylewarrior don’t blame you one bit, I do the same exact thing. I just bought 3 items from one seller after liking over 16 of her items over the last 3 months, likes = sales. Sometimes I can’t afford the item, like it, wait a while, then realize maybe I don’t like it after all and remove my like. It’s totally harmless. I came to her page to share for share, now I have zero interest in doing so after seeing this.

haleygall8 @poshelot as i hope you read through all the comments as well .. im perfectly fine with you having no interest in my closet or "share for share" .. and likes do not equal sales but keep with that same mind set if you like! AGAIN , this is my closet and how I choose to sell is up to me.. so DO NOT like items in my closet if its not something you are wanting to buy! Adios!

thriftyjess22
thriftyjess22 Agreed! It’s so annoying. Just unlike the item if you have no intentions of purchasing. Also what’s the point of creating a bundle and never actually checking out? This is a platform to buy and sell. This is not Instagram lol a like to me means nothing if you’re not interested in buying.

haleygall8
haleygall8 @thriftyjess22 right!!! I've gotten to the point of flat out telling people to remove their likes cause its so annoying! I dont even like items (heart them) on here .. if i see something i like or want .. I already know the highest price im willing to pay for it so I offer right then and there.. if we cant agree on something then I just keep it moving!

mahon66 I just started on here and I don’t understand it at all? I also don’t get how you get followers so more people actually see your stuff.

haleygall8
haleygall8 @mahon66 hey there and welcome to posh! To be honest i don’t really know the exact answer to that but it’s really all dealing with being consistent. Keep your closet filled with different options for people to purchase. Go through and SHARE A lot even if it’s just one after another.. it will bring more people to your page and sharing your items as well. And follow away… the more people you follow the more options of people following back!

angelakarinn
angelakarinn I like items, to create a library and come back and purchase when I'm ready. It's the only way to save items. Not everyone is a spontaneous shopper.

shooting4stars
shooting4stars I personally do it because I only get paid once a month so I like and bundle the items then when pay day comes if its in the budget ill get it or i will go back weeks to months back to that item if its still available and buy it some times at full price or ill put in my own offer and for me a lot of the offers that i put which is basically the original offer the seller gave me most don't even get responded to as a buyer so its frustrating as a buyer to. unfortunately only way PM allows you do so

shooting4stars
shooting4stars FYI when i am on a desk top it does say like/save for later but in the app it doesn't say that. just thought I would let you know pretty sure thats new.

re_findthreads
re_findthreads People may not agree, but liking is actually helpful. I don’t go around liking things Willy nilly. BUT!! I have recently noticed a pattern. I’ve noticed that if someone likes an item in my closet, especially something that doesn’t get much attention, all of the sudden more likes follow in the next several hours. It’s no coincidence. So like away!!! It DOES trigger the algorithms and brings my items exposure!

ranelaghraleigh
ranelaghraleigh As a seller, I could not agree with you more. If I make a liker an offer at %70 off the posted price, why not buy it? What was the point??! However, as a buyer, this is why I can’t buy everything I like, lmao. For me it’s a cycle, I need sales to make purchases. Ultimately I guess for broke folk such as myself, liking is akin to bookmarking. But ultimately I agree, if you’re going to like, be ready to buy! Really enjoyed this 😆

cooky812
cooky812 This is a seriously aggravating problem with the sellers. People just think the like button is a toy or a way to manipulate your price. Each time you offer them a deal, they don’t take it and you’re are stuck with having to reduce again another 10 %.
Apr 14Reply
haleygall8
haleygall8 @cooky812 EXACTLY!! Its the most annoying part of this platform! And there is no way around it either...thats why I just started blocking people that never respond to offers or that will decline an offer without sending any kinda counteroffer back... at least that way it knocks a couple of people out of the way that liked the item for no reason! Also added a "final price" section where i no longer will send out offers its just set at the price to sell before i donate!
Apr 14Reply
cooky812
cooky812 @haleygall8 Great idea about FINAL PRICE SECTION, think I might set a time limit,🤔then off it goes to the women’s shelter🥰
Apr 14Reply
haleygall8
haleygall8 @cooky812 exactly!! My limit is $8 cause after that it’s pointless for me to do the work and ship it out for anything less than $5 profit…. i much rather donate to women and kids in need then to profit $1 off a sale!!
Apr 14Reply
cooky812
cooky812 @haleygall8 I have been doing this since 2015, it was so much better and profitable. Just much too much effort into making it a good experience for the buyer for a token profit.
Apr 14Reply
haleygall8
haleygall8 @cooky812 i was thinking the same thing! I thought it was a lot more profit in 2018 when i joined

anythngsposhabl I don't have time to read all the comments above so I'm not sure if this was already mentioned...maybe I'm the only one in denial about the likelihood of loosing enough weight to fit in a few things I've liked in case they are still available when they will fit 🤣🤣
Apr 21Reply
haleygall8
haleygall8 @anythngsposhabl 🤣🤣🤣 honesty is way better then just ignoring! I wouldn’t mind if this was the reason but I’ve literally told someone before to “pick a price” and I would accept and they still couldn’t or wouldn’t do that!!
Apr 21Reply
anythngsposhabl
anythngsposhabl @haleygall8 Yeah that would annoy me too!

haleygall8
haleygall8 @luvindove i wish poshmark would make some changes!! especially seeing this post alone has some many comments of people agreeing they HATE the same thing!! I honestly started blocking people... if you decline offers and make no attempt to counter offer (like you actually want to buy) then I just block the person. Saves me the head ache of sending out more offers with no responses and gets rid of people who really arent there to buy but more to give you likes like on Instagram!!
Apr 22Reply
jessicaevans051
jessicaevans051 Well… I personally like to browse and save looks I like for later. Also if I’m looking for something in particular I may like several “versions” of it to see who will give me the best deal. Sorry if this tactic causes any problems. I’m a seller too… live and let live! Peace!

Jul 16Reply

fran600
fran600 Well I’ve only been doing this a year and did not realize liking items was an issue! But I will continue to like items for various reasons- Plan on purchasing at a later date, shopping for a specific item to see who gives me the best price. Or I really want an item and it’s too expensive so I might like the item to watch it , maybe being reduced or sold. But I like that people are liking items in my closet and have no problem with it!Just saying -

marcomm23
marcomm23 I was wondering the same. I purchase my items at a great price. Research what others are asking and make sure I am lower and reasonable. A win win I would think.

darlingtoo3399 @almondjoyalso THANK YOU SO MUCH! I am getting an Education from your experiences and Candor. I feel Low Ballers are also aggravating. It’s Valuable Time to pack items and Travel to the Post Office. That Bundle Story is Insane!😱
Sep 16Reply
almondjoyalso
almondjoyalso @darlingtoo3399 I don't waste time on lowballers, or 'ghost' Poshers who lowball from new/empty closets, to sell in their fully stocked closets at huge profits. It infuriates me how they want my new items at huge discounts, while they list their old/worn thrift store items at outrageous prices.
Sep 16Reply
almondjoyalso
almondjoyalso @darlingtoo3399 Daily, I recieve offers for $10 off an $18 listing that's new, netting me $7.05 after Poshmark fees. Sorry, it's NOT happening, when I paid more than $8 for the item.
