Omg- this must be ancient! Fully lined, great shape w exception of a button missing it's face... 36 bust, 21 sleeve (obviously 3/4 length), 42 in length from shoulder. Super interesting- quality garment- too bad about one button...

This one is sheared beaver as well. If you have any questions about any of the stuff. Feel free to ask love. I know it’s a LOT to figure out.

@angelalfrazier Beautiful coat! I think you will find there is no dead beaver in your coat :-) Aristocrat is the name of a vintage faux fur, like Tissaval or Borgana. That also makes it easier to clean too! Also, vegans can buy this coat too. I love vintage coats, and learning about all the different materials used. Your coat is gorgeous -- it should sell quickly! :-)

@isittimefortea omg... thank you... the girl I bought this from (in a huge lot of vintage goodies) corrected me and told me it was sheared beaver when she saw my listing. I had no clue (and felt very stupid).... so happy--- I really think beavers are adorable - but not for wearing! did you see the other coat? will you look? plz

@angelalfrazier sure I will look for it. And oh my goodness, there are so many fabrics it is really hard to tell sometimes. Also until the 1950s with the fur labeling act, sellers could use any term they wanted. For example, seal was really popular in the 1800s, but was hunted to the point where hunting was banned. So manufacturers found that sheared & dyed rabbit and muskrat looked like seal...

... so you'd get "Hudson Seal" with a printed logo showing an igloo & seals...but it was made of muskrat. And then you have Mouton, which is sheepskin sheared and processed to look like beaver (which was unavailable due to overhunting).
(wish they allowed more than 500 characters lol :-)

A tip off for fabric vs fur is if it says, "clean by furrier method only" then it is not fur, or faux body w/ real fur trim.
There is also the burn test -- take a cutting from a non noticeable part, light it on fire -- if it smells like hair burning & turns to ash, it's animal/plant based. If it gobs up and smells chemically, it's a synthetic material.

@isittimefortea you are too kind and fabulous... I have a terrible guilty love of fur... and I justify it by only wanting old ones- haha
