poshtanq @justplaindandy Yes, so rare for the west coast. We had 2 Clydes originally and bought them at the Western States Horse Expo years ago from a Budweiser breeder from Montana. The shires, half sisters, came from a breeder in Kentucky. I’m obsessed with their size and gentle nature but smart minds. They’re all mounts. I don’t do any pulling with them. How about your shire? justplaindandy @poshtanq Wow! So, your girlies had to travel a fair distance to get to you.❤️ I’ll bet they are serious loves🥰 I’ve always loved the big guys too! We were lucky enough to find our guy in Oregon, so we didn’t have to travel that far for him. The goal is to use him for riding, but he’s sorta on the lazy side 😅 If you know any awesome trainers in Northern California we are definitely looking!

poshtanq @justplaindandy My gelding is on the lazy side too…. Susan Wirgler is who I recommend. She is a light-handed, results-oriented trainer who works closely with the riders. Put her name in Google and you’ll find her website. Her cell is at the very bottom of her webpages. Her training facility is just outside Placerville. She’s trained all our drafts. I send them in every other year or so for tuneups. Love her techniques.

poshtanq @justplaindandy Shoot. I haven’t bought tack for them in a few years. My girlies aren’t as big as the gelding, so I was able to use tack from my bigger thoroughbreds and quarter horses for them. I’ve used mydrafthorse.com too. And then in Auburn there is a place that custom builds and fits saddles and that’s where we had the gelding’s done.

poshtanq You can take your horse there and they’ll fit new and used saddles and also build something custom if you’re not finding the right fit with their inventory. I can’t remember the name though and not immediately finding it online. Maybe try calling the Used Saddle Connection or Sierra Saddlery. They’ll know who offers the in person or better yet “in-horse” fitting.
