It’s so hard for her to see past just her and her problems right now. She asked Dennis and I three times if the stores were really that empty. I went up to the Walgreens by her house and took a couple pictures of the bare aisles and said see hun.

@maidmarian She started at NY Presbyterian Weill Cornell in mid September. She was doing a Residency (all their nursing staff does it for the ER). Well they pulled her off the Residence Program as soon as it hit the US. We don’t hear much because she is either on shift working the maximum hours or home sleeping (she lives across the street). I’m so worried she is going to get infected but, so far so good. I am also unbelievably proud of her but, it’s really scary. ❤️

@maidmarian yes my mom is 84 & lives by herself in her big house. She’s the only one I visit everyday, to make sure she eats something. My husband architect is home, & he does our market shopping, shelves are getting funeral now. My daughter is a pharmacist & has to work every day. Here in Glendale, Ca we can’t go out without a mask, big penalty. 2 of my husband’s clients, male 60-67 years old were in the UCLA ICU for a week, are home now.

My siblings are just gonna have to step up because my moms too compromised for me to have contact (although I’m pretty sure I’ve had it was asymptotic and probably have the anybody)! Enter through the garage, strip down, scrubs in the wash sneakers in a bag, run to the shower. Just FYI....I work in a Walk-in Clinic and one of my sweetest patients has a wife in an assisted living home. He just dies a little every day that he cannot read to her. Breaks my heart.:-((((

@sapurses I’m glad you shared that with me. It’s beyond heartbreaking. The staff have an obligation to offer virtual communication. Regardless of whether she can understand. Even once a week for 10 minutes the rec therapist should have an iPad (if he has an iPhone or someone helps him, to read to her and see her.

@maidmarian I saw him yesterday and they are working on a way for them to virtually "see" each other. They have been getting together thru the window but I know he really needs her to hear him every day. It is such a shame, not only because it causes both of them distress but it also causes panic attacks and insomnia for him. I know that our SW and the homes SW are helping them. He said they are trying a recording of him reading so hopefully that will help. I appreciate YOU!!!

What a beautiful post. My MIL is in a Memory Loss Care Facility. Initially they lost 9 residents 😭😭😭 My MIL DID contract COVID, but beat it @ 91‼️‼️ She’s amazing. I completely agree w/ you!! Doing ANYTHING; ours allows us to take mags, games (children’s puzzles, string games & the likes), treats pre-wrapped etc...) drop them off @ concierge.

They sanitize & take to residents. Even costume jewelry is MUCH APPRECIATED, as the women adore ‘dressing up a bit” new nail polish, makeup, even clean clothing items! So what’s not selling could go there! ❤️👍🏼👍🏼👌🏽💚💗💚❌⭕️❌⭕️🌝🌝🌝

@annick100 I work in a nursing home. We do everything we can to keep them from falling into a deep depression. FaceTime with their families is most important! If they’re on the first we do window visits. The smile on their faces is priceless 💕

We use Amazon’s FaceTime portal—an Assistant helps my MIL turn on! She truly enjoys. We’ve done window visits too, but w/ the Alzheimer’s, they frustrate her 😭😩 She cannot understand why we don’t come in. The $100. Portal is like a phone call, doesn’t seem to confuse her, & we’re sending to extended family for Christmas so they can begin too. Know not everyone can afford, but possibly going in on together & sharing is an idea? Just need phone line/WiFi.

Y’all sound AWESOME—wish every care facility was equally accommodating. Know, due to macular, my MIL NEEDS the Alexa - she just cannot see smartphone, but we still are sure to call either landline or use ALEXA daily. Her memory is big issue, & whole situation is tragic, as these are likely her last months/years. She just KNOWS she misses us terribly. I AM allowed to take her out for eye-exams, & doc appts her in-house PA can’t cover, (w/ quarantine after),

so occasionally we get together/out. Am so grateful for that. She’s quite mobile for her age 👍🏼 Needs wheelchair for longer hauls, but I just take w/. Again, appreciate you & othrs like you so very much!! Angels 😇😇😇😇❤️

@maidmarian GBS is Gillian-Barre Syndrome. It’s a nerve disease & it causes the shut down of the nervous system of the body! And that includes brain & lungs! It chooses what it will effect. I’ll never get rid of it. But it can go into remission but mine hasn’t. It’s a terrible virus! It is associated with Covid!

@maidmarian yes.. it’s also associated with Epstein Barre syndrome which is sleeping sickness/ mononucleosis! So I’ll go days and sleep for 3-4 days! But worst of all your entire body feels like neuropathy has set in, I call them worms because it moves around in my skin.

I’m glad you’re ok through this pandemic: The Second Coming!! It’s just awful! We lost 39 residents in the 1st & 2 nurses (not including me) 😢

@maidmarian I started with a GI issue for Covid. Vomiting black & green, what you’d see come up in an NG tube! Mostly GI viruses 🦠 turn into Guillain-Barré syndrome, New England Journal of Medicine has done medical research on it, the paper is available, plus a multitude of others!

@maidmarian My workmans Comp is fighting me, it’s over a year now! Spent 6 months relearning how to sit up, roll over, stand, eat! Gave me the opportunity to see what our residents go through 🤦♀️!! It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life! And 6 months no visitors or human contact!!
