sdshopper Hi! Just came across this. I have an arachnoid cyst the size of a golf ball in my right middle cranial fossa myself but drs won’t operate and think my symptoms aren’t from the cyst, lol. Seems you have a very good team of doctors!I hope you are recovering well and it is a successful surgery💜

selinsboutique @sdshopper I had a hard time finding a doctor that would operate on me as well but I'm seeing Dr. Kim in Houston, Texas. He is wonderful! If you have the chance I would definitely recommend a consultation with him:)

sdshopper @selinihun Hey there, I hope you are feeling well. Looks like my cyst was 4.5 x 3.8 x 3.4 last October and now 6 x 4.3 x 3.9. Grown significantly. Had to get another mri it seems I’ve been getting seizure like activity almost every day. It can last for hours at times. Plus my results have additional issues I’ve never heard before.

sdshopper Do I just contact your doctor? How is his response time? I went to the ER and they told me to take a clonazapam and it’s psychogenic without evaluating me😓 Such is the life of an arachnoid!!! Thx

sdshopper Hey girlie- thank you very much. I spoke to Dr. Kim today and I am going to be having surgery. Thank you so much, you have made such a huge difference in my life. He’s about 2 months out, so I’m hoping after Thanksgiving or after Christmas (can’t ruin the holidays for my kiddos!). How long were you hospitalized?

sdshopper Hi Celine, I hope you are doing well. I wanted to ask if Dr. Hsu or others were involved with your care pre-op or just the initial appointment. I’m only asking because my initial appt. was with both him and Dr. Kim (even though Dr. Kim is operating on me). Sorry to nag. It is just strange considering Dr. Hsu’s expertise. sdshopper @selinihun Ok good. It seemed strange but I thought he might just be helping with the cases. I’m not on FB😕 but that’s ok! Thank you for your support. It’s ok if you don’t get on very much. I totally get it! I am so grateful for you. It’s hard to find someone who will listen. (I noticed he preformed surgery on Congresswoman Gabby Gifford- that’s crazy!) Now it’s just about a month before my craniotomy😳

I was supposed to have my surgery last month I actually went down to Houston and had all my preop appointments but something went wrong last minute and I had to cancel the day before. Hopefully I'll get rescheduled pretty soon too:)

sdshopper @selinihun oh no! I thought you already had surgery! I hope you are doing ok. Yeah, I hear you. Crossing my fingers all goes well. I had an appointment with my primary and something was on my ekg but she said it was ok since it was consistent and no heart attacks showing up. I have to get some old surgical records from spinal surgery and a catheter ablation on my heart sent over.

selinsboutique @sdshopper Actually the reason I can't reschedule at the moment is due to money. I am paying completely out of pocket because I do not have insurance that will cover it:( someone was supposed to help us pay the last bit but he pulled out last minute while we were already ready in Texas the day before my surgery. Dr. Kim says he will schedule me immediately the second I get all the money :) hopefully it will be soon!

selinsboutique @sdshopper Margaret and Dr. kim were super upset they called me personally after to see if I was okay:( yeah its still up! Don't have too much more to go so I'm thinking it will be around January:) Symptom wise I'm having really bad headaches and eye pain constantly. Everything else is more bearable but the eye pain and headaches have been rough.

sdshopper @selinihun I’m still having my episodes....what I call it. I had a dream my vision was affected (it is close to my optic nerve I think they said) last night. Are they planning on an open craniotomy? Part of my problem- memory and cognitive issues lol.

sdshopper @selinihun Ugh the headaches. I know how you feel. I get eye pain but only during the migraines. That’s good that Margaret and Dr. Kim are so kind. I know when I feel like I’m nagging, Margaret tells me that I’m not and to ask anything I need. How were the preop appointments? I hope you don’t have to do that again.Did you know he treated Gabby Gifford? It’s crazy who he also studied under!

sdshopper @selinihun Yay!!! Take vitamin c and zinc. My husband made me and with quarantine, I was fortunate. Let me know how it goes. Btw I don’t know if you have a Costco membership, but out of ABQ it was like $2150 for our flights and stay at Intercontinental Houston Medical Center.

sdshopper They have the only special filter in the air to kill everything. It was in the news. Best service, food it decent (not the best but staying for a while under quarantine, it’s limited.) Free shuttle to and from a 3 mile radius of hotel too. Anyway, ttys💕💕💕

sdshopper @selinihun I’m glad you are getting in soon! The recovery is rough. Only major stress was Dr Kim tried to really minimize pain pills and I had a really hard time controlling the pain. Make sure you have enough before you leave otherwise your primary care is going to have to help you. Stay on top of the pain as much as you can. I have some swelling I have to watch- small chance I may need a shunt but I think I’m getting better. Mine was the worst he has ever seen “by far”. So no surprise.

sdshopper He thinks when I had meningitis it made it much thicker. Anyway, still the best thing I’ve done- so many things improved- things I didn’t know were connected. Do you think before Christmas you will go in?

selinsboutique @sdshopper I really wish there was another way we could talk I always have so many questions. Are you still having pain? My primary already prescribes me with oxycodone for my headaches so I think I would be able to get those from her after my surgery for the pain as well. Are you still in Houston?

sdshopper @selinihun I didn’t see this! I had meningitis in 2005. It caused it to get thicker from what he believes. Right now my head is still swollen near my incision site and I’m praying I don’t have hydrocephalus. He said it should go down within a month, and it has but it fluctuates. It’s been 5 weeks. Do you have a date in January?

sdshopper Glad it’s after the holidays- this is rough. Hard to get things done. Plan on several weeks to feel better. I want to tell you, not scare you but I though it wasn’t much of a big deal from what others have said.

sdshopper @selinihun Yayyyy!!! So so happy for you! How are you feeling health wise and are you nervous? I have to go for a CT scan on Thursday since I’m still having alot of pressure and swelling. It usually goes down within a month but I had a complicated surgery. Where are they doing the craniotomy? The back? I will be praying for you. Where are you staying? And is it 2 nights in the hospital?

selinsboutique @sdshopper I’m extremely nervous. I keep second guessing on whether I should actually do it. I hope your CT comes out well and that you start feeling better soon! My craniotomy will be in the back. I’ll be staying at a hotel nearby in Houston. They told me I’ll be in the hospital 1-3 nights. Hopefully it ends up only being one since I’m not allowed any visitors.

sdshopper @selinihun Ah that’s horrible! My husband was allowed there. Maybe it will change once you get closer. I’m imagining you will be in Houston for 2 weeks. Please stay on top of your meds and if you have problems in the beginning get help. It’s difficult. Thank you- I’m just praying I don’t need a stent. You will do great. I second guessed mine, more so the night before. But glad once he went in it was completely justified and I made the right choice.

sdshopper @selinihun UGH! Are they not doing surgeries right now or are you okay? I’m so sorry! There’s a reason for everything I try to believe. I’m doing ok. I am going to get a lumbar puncture to check on my spinal fluid and make sure there’s no hydrocephalus.

sdshopper I went to the ER last week and Stephanie Garza from Dr. Kim’s office and I decided that that’s what I need to check on the pressure I feel. I have a Neuro appointment on Wednesday so I’m hoping the dr. can schedule one soon. Other than that things are looking up.
