beautyandgems Why do you put lye in your soap?

natures_beauty2 @buddysmom100 That’s originally how soap was made. Instead of lye the old timers used what’s called potash instead of lye. It’s wood ash. All of the “beauty “ bars that commercial stores sell can’t legally be called soap bc they do not contain lye. The oils & lye connect as they’re curing and turn into soap. It’s called saponification.
