This spectacular silk quilt top is probably from Ohio, constructed by hand with paper backing pieces. Some papers are postmarked as early as 1874. 5" floral motifs have 6 hexagons, each about 1" per side. Centers are generally brocades, velvets & heavier silks. Excellent antique condition with few areas of damage on edges (last 4 photos). Near perfect construction, basting stitches visible. AQS certified appraisal $695. Stored rolled in pet, smoke free home, humidity control. Sold as is, please study all photos and ask questions prior to purchasing. No returns due to fragility of item.

What a piece of art and history! Love that it’s still gorgeous as a “work in progress”, basting stitches and all 🤩

Did you make this beautiful quilt?

quiltsewcraft
@gypsythorn No, it was probably constructed at the end of the 19th or beginning of the 20th century. I'm old but not that ancient :)

@quiltsewcraft ha! I should have read the description! Being your user name is "quiltswcraft, I just assumed that you made it. That, along w/all your yarn & quilting material. Whenever I assume something, I am ALWAYS wrong, so I should have known. : l I'm not quite sure how I will redecorate yet. I like to change things every so many years, & my grandmother used to make beautiful quilts, so I am leaning towards something vintage.

Wow! 🤩 I love how it’s made with scrap paper, keeping it simple and more affordable (at the time). Absolutely stunning! This piece deserves to be on delicate “don’t touch” display - like in a museum❣️

@chasintreasure Yes, it is museum worthy. I just posted it here on the off chance a museum curator or docent might see it. It's stunning in person, and I'm delighted you can appreciate its beauty and character.
