1950's Vintage Japan Pastel Necklace

In all my years of collecting I've never seen another like this one. The candy coloured balls are a type of fabric? or Sponge? I just don't know. All I know is that it's fun, funky and in excellent vintage condition. The row closest to the neck is 13 inches, the second row is about 14 inches with a generous full 3 inch extender Hallmarked "Japan"
