So at one stage of my life (my 20s) I loved all things Japanese - teapots, dolls, kimonos, etc. I must have picked this up at a yard sale (judging by the 1.00 on the base) Now that 50 years have gone by I am looking at my collection and saying goodbye. This very simple Kokeshi doll is significant because it is good example of the traditional Japanese Folk Dolls as well as a piece of memorabilia from the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. This doll has wear that you would expect from a vintage toy. It is not a bobble-head, it is firmly attached. The message that was tucked inside this doll, in several languages, is really in bad condition but still there. I will send a copy of the message pulled from the internet. Please see pictures for more details.
