Original Cyanotype Holiday Ornament can be hung from cute red ribbon or stand

The fern-like image which looks like a Christmas tree in this ornament is an original wet cyanotype. Cyanotype is one of the earliest photographic processes, invented in the mid-1800s by Sir John Herschel, originally used to reproduce “blueprints.” It was made by coating paper with ferric ammonium citrate and potassium ferricyanide which when carefully mixed together become a photosensitive emulsion which yields a beautiful blue. When the paper is dry, objects can be placed onto the photosensitive paper and left in the sun where it will react to the ultraviolet light. A wet cyanotype is created by adding liquids to the treated paper before the sun exposure. This process can create interesting patterns and different color tones.
