It is made up of marquise cut tanzanite and the stem has stippling that looks like diamonds and 4 round zircon stones. It is 1.25 inches long, .75 inches wide, and is 3mm thick, very substantial pendant, and it has an elegant finished smooth back, 18inch snake chain included with full price purchase. Tanzanite is a member of the zoisite family, but is unique because of its striking blue/violet color. Tanzanite is uniquely trichroic. This means that in its rough form, it radiates three different colors from each of its crystallographic axes: blue, violet and red. Cut stones in jewelry deplay more violet or more blue depending on how the rough stone is cut. It is also heated. It is only found in Simanjiro District of Manyara Region in Tanzania.
