This vintage Asian cardigan sweater is simply stunning! It is black with red and gold details and features 2 gold colored frog closures in the front; it might be hand stitched. It has 6 hidden interior hook and eye closures on the inside placket, that run from the neck to the waist. There are no tags, but the lightweight material feels like it could be a wool blend or even a cashmere blend. This is a crop or cropped style that hits just above the waist, and the sleeves are longer than 3/4 length, but slightly short than bracelet length. The bodice is lined, while the sleeves are unlined.
Based on the cut, this sweater may be from the early 1950s to early 1960s. One vintage clothing expert I consulted with speculated that it could be from the Korean War era, which was from 1950 to 1953, and that many US troops who were stationed in Korea took leave in Japan; this may very well be a Japanese piece.
EUC (excellent used vintage condition). There are a few loose threads on the middle frog loop. There are also a few missing stitches on the top of the lining, around the neck area, but these can't be seen on the outside of the garment.
Approximate measurements - lying flat:
19.5” across bust, from armpit to armpit
18.5” length from shoulder to bottom hem
19” sleeve length
