This fabulous brooch was made in Taxco, Mexico by Miguel Melendez. It conjures a sun setting on a mountain shaped by a snake. It's in good vintage condition with light wear. There is an area where crushed stone is damaged. See pics. It measures 1 1/2 inches in diameter and weighs 12 grams. I believe the stone is azurite. The hallmarks on back read: M circling around itself to form a C, Taxco, Sterling Hecho En Mexico, eagle #3. Melendez went to work for Los Castillo in the early 1940's and later worked at Margot de Taxco. He left Margot de Taxco in 1953 to work independently.
